In a dream it is salvation for one who is in worry, terror, illness, straitened circumstances or drought. If he sees a ship on land, it is salvation drawing near. If he drags it along the ground, he will lead [others] and be hypocritical in religion. If he boards it with righteous people, he will follow guidance and God Almighty will forgive him. If he comes out of it, he will be happy and saved from his enemies. If a dismissed man sees that he boarded the ship, he will be given a governorship by one of the kings, in proportion to the sea, and the extent of his governorship will be in proportion to the ship's soundness and size; and the ship's distance from land is his distance from dismissal; or he will travel and fall into worry, and its distance from land is his distance from relief. If he is involved in some affair, he will undertake a risk in which one of two things will happen to him: either rescue or destruction. Whoever sees it, of those for whom a governorship is not fitting, is in a risk in which he will meet either salvation or destruction. Whoever is exposed to destruction and sees that he is aboard a ship, relief and salvation will come to him, or he will hold fast to a man of importance. If he goes out on it to dry land, he will disobey. If his fortune has gone, or he is a merchant whose trade has been lost, the ship is the return of his fortune. If the ship is associated with a governorship, his leaving it is the end of his fortune, through death or in life; and if it is associated with worry, it is salvation for him through supplication, charity, medicine or otherwise. If the ship sinks and he clings to a plank from it: if he is a governor, the ruler will become angry with him and he will come close to dismissal, then be saved from what he fears and the governorship will return to him; if he is a merchant, it is a decrease in his wealth, which will then be compensated. If it sinks, he is like a drowned man. If he sees that he died on a ship in the depths of the water, he will die in people's hands, and that death will be salvation for him from the evil he fears of what he will come to after death. If he sees that he is on a ship at sea, he will enter the service of the greatest king, and his state will be like his state on that ship. It is also said that the ship in interpretation is worry, illness, imprisonment, or a matter he is attempting that stands between him and rising up in it; but he will be saved from it and not perish in it. If a ship sinks and its planks scatter, it is a calamity for him concerning a father, an uncle or someone of similar importance to him. If a person sees that he is traveling on a ship with a gentle, pleasant voyage, it is a sign of good for all people; and if he sees hardship and turbulence befalling him on his voyage, it indicates grief and hardship that he will fall into. If he sees that the ship cracked apart, the state of those in it became severe and it broke up, it is a sign of evil for all people, except for one who is a captive or a slave, for whom it indicates deliverance from captivity and slavery. If he sees that he cannot sail the ship on the sea, it indicates detention that will come to him from some people, and the complication of his affairs and circumstances; for when a person sees that he is traveling on land and trees or mountains confront him and prevent him from moving on, the dream indicates his being held back and the complication of his affairs.

(It is also said: whoever sees) that he boarded the ship will suffer a sudden loss. Whoever finds something on a ship, it is wealth for one seeking money, marriage for the unmarried, and a gift for one connected to the caliph.
(Whoever sees) that he is on a ship while the wind is blowing and the sea is ebbing and flowing, and he calmed that turmoil and removed it, will attain noble leadership and strong authority in which soldiers obey him, present and absent, so that even the greatest kings submit to him.

“So they set out, until when they had embarked on the ship, he [i.e., al-Khiḍr] tore it open. [Moses] said, "Have you torn it open to drown its people? You have certainly done a grave thing."”
