Sky (heaven) سماء

In a dream, the sky indicates itself: whatever comes down from it or comes from its direction, its counterpart will come from God the Exalted, with no human having any part in it. For example, if fire falls from it onto houses, people will be struck by illnesses, brain fever (pleurisy), smallpox and death. If fire falls from it onto the markets, the goods sold there will become scarce and expensive. It is said that if it falls on cultivated fields, threshing floors and places of vegetation, the vegetation will burn and be struck by hail or locusts. If something comes down from it that indicates fertility, provision and wealth — such as honey, oil, figs and barley — people will be rained upon with beneficial rains, and their benefit will be in the thing that came down from the sky. The sky may represent the person and essence of the ruler, so whatever signs of good and evil are seen of it, in it, descending with it or upon it indicate the ruler. It may indicate his palace, the seat of his kingdom, his pavilion and his treasury. Whoever climbs up to it by a ladder or a rope will gain elevation from the king and favor with him. If he climbs to it without a ladder or rope, he will be struck by intense fear of the ruler and will fall into great delusion about meeting him or about what he hoped for from him — or if his intention was eavesdropping to spy on the ruler, or sneaking into his treasury or palace to steal from it. If he reaches the sky, he will reach the utmost of the matter; if he returns to the earth, he will escape from what he got into; and if he falls from his place, his condition will be ruined in proportion to where his fall led him and which of his limbs broke. If the one who reached the sky is ill in waking life and does not return to the earth, he will die of his illness and his soul will likewise ascend to the sky; and if he returns to the earth, the harm in him will reach its limit and his family will give up hope for him, then he will survive, God willing — unless, on his way down, he also fell into a well or a pit and did not come out, for that is his grave to which he returns after coming back. In that there is good news of dying in Islam, because the gates of heaven are not opened for the unbelievers and their souls do not ascend to it. If he sees people being shot with arrows from the gates of heaven: if they are in some of the signs of plague, its gates will be opened on them; if the arrows wound and draw the blood of everyone they hit, it is a confiscation by the ruler, upon each person according to his share; if they aim at ears and eyes, it is civil strife whose arrows fly wildly, in which the religion of everyone whose hearing or sight they strike will perish; and if they fall on them without harm and they gather and pick them up, they are spoils from God the Exalted — such as locusts, kinds of birds, manna (heavenly food) or booty — and the ruler’s arrows of earning, or the like, in jihad, provisions and gifts for which his treasuries and coffers will be opened. As for drawing near to the sky, it indicates nearness to God the Exalted, and that is for people of obedience and righteous deeds. It may indicate a distressed person in need who calls out and whose prayer is accepted and answered. It may also indicate drawing near and close to the imam, the ruler, the scholar, the father, the husband, the master and everyone who is above him in waking life. Falling from the sky to the earth may indicate the death of the ruler if he is ill, and his arrival in that land if he is traveling; this may apply specifically to the dreamer’s own ruler and to the leaders above him, such as a father, master, husband and the like. The falling of the sky may indicate barren land. If people trample on it with their feet after it has fallen, and they are servants, or they are picking up from it things that indicate provision, fertility and wealth, it is a great and beneficial rainfall — the Arabs call rain “sky” because it comes down from the sky. Whoever has the sky fall on him in particular, or on his family, it indicates the collapse of the roof of his house; and if the one on whom the sky fell is ill in waking life, he will die. Whoever climbs up to the sky and enters it will attain martyrdom, win God the Exalted’s honor, and gain distinction and renown along with it.

Whoever sees that he is in the sky will command and forbid.

Whoever sees that he climbed up to the sky to look at the earth will attain elevation, and will regret something he missed. If he sees that he is in the lowest heaven and he is qualified to be a minister, he will attain the ministry or enter the service of a minister, because the lowest heaven is the place of the moon, and the moon in interpretation is the minister. If he sees that he is in the second heaven, he will attain refinement from which people learn, insight, writing and leadership, because the second heaven belongs to Mercury. If he sees that he is in the third heaven, he will attain blessings, slave girls, jewelry, joy and happiness, and become rich and live in comfort, because the third heaven belongs to Venus. If he sees that he is in the fourth heaven, he will attain kingship, rule and awe, or enter the service of a king or ruler, because the fourth heaven belongs to the sun. If he sees that he is in the fifth heaven, he will be put in charge of the police, or attain fighting, or thievery, or debauchery, because the fifth heaven belongs to Mars. If he sees himself in the sixth heaven, he will be granted jurisprudence, judgeship, asceticism and worship; he will be resolute and prudent in affairs, and the king’s treasurer, because the sixth heaven belongs to Jupiter.

Whoever sees that he is in the seventh heaven will acquire real estate or lands, agents and farmers, with a long life, because the seventh heaven belongs to Saturn. If the dreamer is not qualified for these ranks and stations, the interpretation applies to his superior, or his descendants, or his peer, or his namesake. If he sees that he is above the seventh heaven, he will attain great elevation but will perish. If he sees that he is above the sky, he will die and return to the Hereafter. If he sees that the sky has turned green, it indicates abundant crops that year; if it has turned yellow, it indicates illnesses in it; and if he sees that it is made of iron, rain will be scarce in it. If he sees that he fell down from it, he will disbelieve, or he will be struck by a misfortune from an unjust man. If it splits open and an old man comes out of it, it is good fortune for the people of that land, and they will receive good, fertility, harmony and joy. If a young man comes out, it is an enemy who will appear and do harm to the people of those places, and enmity and division will occur among them. If sheep come out, it is booty (spoils). If camels come out, they will be rained upon and a torrent will flow among them. If a beast of prey comes out, they will be afflicted with the tyranny of an unjust ruler. If he sees that the sky became sealed shut, rain will be withheld from them; and if it opened up, rain and vegetation will increase. If he sees the gates of heaven open, rains will increase and prayers will be answered; and if he sees its gates closed, rains will be withheld that year. If he sees that he came down from the sky to the earth, he will be struck by a severe illness and great danger in which he comes close to death, and then he will survive. If he sees that he touched the sky, he is attempting a great matter and will not attain it. If he sees that he rose until he came close to it without reaching it, he is a religious man, or will attain elevation in religion and worldly matters. Looking at the sky is one of the kings of this world; and if he looks toward the east and the west, it is a journey, and he may attain great authority. If he sees that he stole the sky and hid it in a jar, he will steal a copy of the Quran and give it to his wife.

Whoever sees that the sky opened up will attain joy, good and blessing. If he sees that he is climbing up to the sky in a straight line, he will suffer loss and decline in his body and his wealth. If he sees that he is climbing in it without straightness and with hardship, he will attain authority and blessing and be safe from his enemy’s schemes. If he sees that he took hold of the sky with his teeth, he will be struck by a calamity in himself or a loss in his wealth, or he wants something his hand cannot reach, or he will incur the anger of a superior. If he sees that he entered the sky and did not come down from it, it is a sign of his death or of his coming close to destruction. If he sees that he is circling in the sky and then comes down from it, he will learn astronomy (astrology) and obscure sciences and become renowned. If he sees that he leaned against the sky, he will attain leadership and victory over those who oppose him.

Whoever sees that he is in the sky and does not know when he climbed up to it will enter Paradise, God willing.

Whoever sees that he has a building in the sky unlike the buildings of people on earth will leave this world in a state that is not pleasing.

Whoever sees that he has a building between the sky and the earth: if he is someone whose nature is disliked, it is something ugly in religion; otherwise it is honor in religion and worldly life.

Whoever sees that a gate in the sky was opened for him and for all people, it is relief for him and good for the people of the earth.

Whoever sees that he fell from the sky, if he holds authority, his authority will leave him and his affair will not be completed.

Whoever sees a vulture or an eagle flying up to the sky without falling will receive good and elevation.

Whoever sees that he is hanging by a rope from the sky will take charge of authority in religion in proportion to how far he was lifted from the ground; and if he sees that the rope broke with him, his authority will leave him.

Whoever sees a lamp being lit in the sky and then going out, it is the sun being eclipsed.

Whoever sees the sky being built in his presence has borne false witness, because of the words of the Exalted:

۞ مَّآ أَشْهَدتُّهُمْ خَلْقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا خَلْقَ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَمَا كُنتُ مُتَّخِذَ ٱلْمُضِلِّينَ عَضُدًا

“I did not make them witness to the creation of the heavens and the earth or to the creation of themselves, and I would not have taken the misguiders as assistants.”

Quran 18:51 · Saheeh International

Whoever sees that he fell from the sky to the earth will commit a grave sin. If his head was upside down while falling, it indicates a long life; it may be a warning to him against falling into disobedience; and it may indicate the relapse of a sick person after recovery, the backsliding of a penitent and his return to sin, or the rising of the lowly members of his family above the elders.

Whoever sees light coming out of the sky, it indicates the guidance of the people of that place; and if darkness comes out, it indicates their going astray. If he sees a whip coming down from the sky, people will be struck by trials because of sins they have earned and crimes they have committed. Seeing the heavens indicates, for people of learning, unveiling and insight into the realities of things and concern for the affairs of the Hereafter. Seeing them and ascending to them in a dream may all indicate journeys to great cities and precious, profitable trade in many kinds of goods by land and sea. Ascending to the heavens and crossing them may indicate corrupt belief and lying, or speaking the truth. Seeing the sky indicates one’s country, wife, father, mother, teacher, and places from which benefit is hoped and harm is feared. The sky indicates an oath for whoever looks up at it in a dream, because of the words of the Exalted:

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْحُبُكِ

“By the heaven containing pathways,”

Quran 51:7 · Saheeh International

and His words:

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ

“By the sky containing great stars”

Quran 85:1 · Saheeh International

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ

“By the sky and the night comer”

Quran 86:1 · Saheeh International

It may indicate a wondrous building. Ascending to the sky may indicate striving to seek provision and the easing of what one hopes for in the fulfillment of a promise. The sky may indicate the sea, because of its vastness and the creatures of God the Exalted it contains. Seeing the sky, for those who plant trees or grow crops, is a sign of the growth of crops and fruit. In a dream the sky indicates everything that is above the head, such as a cap, a roof or a helmet, and whatever one is protected by from enemies, such as the ruler, or a son for one he protects, such as a wife, wealth and religion. It may indicate death for one who climbs to it and does not come down. It indicates suspicion (being accused), by analogy with the story of Jesus (peace be upon him). It indicates loftiness. If one sees the sky clear away (break apart), it indicates religious innovation and error. Seeing the sky may indicate the pilgrimage. Coming down from the sky to the earth indicates reconciliation with enemies. Consider what comes down from the sky of good kinds, such as flour, honey and clarified butter, and what comes down of evil kinds, such as snakes, scorpions and geckos: whoever takes something of the good kinds in a dream will attain lawful provision and beneficial knowledge; and if he takes something of the evil kinds, or is harmed by it, it indicates worries, troubles and afflictions to the self, such as illnesses, and devastation in wealth. Ascending to the sky may indicate arguments and troubles from the envious and from enemies. If something of the good kinds ascends to the sky, it indicates high prices, the loss of righteous people, and the death of warriors and pilgrims; and if something of the evil kinds ascends to it, it indicates the destruction of the unbelievers or the lifting of injustice. Entering the sky in a dream may indicate the homes of great people. If he takes something from the sky, it indicates thievery and spying for news. If he enters it while a sinner, he will die; if he is an unbeliever, he will be guided; if he is wanted (pursued), he will hide in a place no one can reach; if he is ill and does not return from it, he will die; or he may travel to a distant place; and if he is one who works in service, he will serve a ruler and gain influence with him. The sky may indicate prison, and ascending to it is a sign of high ambition.
