Bow (archery) قوس

In a dream it is travel, a brother, a wife, a child, and drawing near to God the Exalted, because of His saying, the Exalted:

فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ

“And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer.”

Quran 53:9 · Saheeh International

Whoever sees a bow in a sheath, his wife is pregnant. Whoever hands his wife a bow while she is pregnant, she will give birth to a girl for him; and if he sees his wife hand him the bow, her pregnancy is a male child, because a boy is handed over to his father and stays with him in his shop, while the woman raises the girl and the girl stays close to her in the house.

Whoever sees that he is drawing a bow and it bends with him, his life will be long. It is also said that whoever draws a bow without an arrow, it signifies travel.

Whoever sees that his bow has broken and he has no weapon with him, his brother will die, or his child, or his partner, or his friend.

Whoever sees that the grip of his bow has broken, it signifies the breaking of the hand of whoever the bow stands for: his friend, his partner, his child or his brother.

Whoever sees his bow broken in his hand will be removed from his office if he is a governor, and will suffer a loss if he is a merchant.

Whoever sees a young man stringing a bow, his enemy has prepared words with which to confront him. Shooting with an Arab bow is travel in the lands of the Arabs, and shooting with a Persian bow is travel to the lands of the Persians. Whoever fits a string onto a bow will marry, and if he unstrings it, he will divorce.

Whoever sees that the ruler has given him two bows, or sees two bows between himself and the king, will attain rank and command over a people, because of His saying, the Exalted:

فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ

“And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer.”

Quran 53:9 · Saheeh International

Two bows may also be taken as indicating the two eyebrows. Whoever's bow breaks will travel and return safely; if the string snaps, he will see something hateful in the place he travels to, and perhaps his journey will not be completed. His shooting of arrows may be false speech or true speech, and it takes effect according to how far the arrow flies.

Whoever sees that he is carving a bow will gain authority, or will marry and be blessed with a male child.

Whoever sees that he is drawing a bow and it does not yield to him, the matter of the person the bow is attributed to will become difficult for him, and that person will gain the upper hand over him. Whoever strings a bow and its string snaps will divorce his wife, and he may be removed from his office before he even takes it up. If he draws a bow that makes a sound, shoots from it and the arrow flies true, he will take up an awe-inspiring office and his command will be carried out with justice and fairness. If he shoots an arrow from it, his commands and prohibitions will be carried out. If he hits the target, he is in the right, fair and just in his authority; if he misses, he will be unjust in his authority and fall short in his office. If he strings his bow and it is stiff and hard, then if he is a traveler, it is a journey of hardship; if he is a merchant, it is loss in his trade; if he has a child, it is a disobedient child; and if he has a wife, she is a rebellious wife. If the bow is easy, the interpretation is the opposite of that. If he shoots an arrow from it and hits the target, he will obtain what he wishes for; and if the man is pious, he commands what is right and fulfills trusts.

Whoever sees that he is shooting with an Arab bow will travel in honor from a ruler, and in pursuit of a need from a noble, mighty man.

Whoever sees that he is shooting with a Persian bow will travel to non-Arab peoples and gain honor and nobility from them.

Whoever sees a strung bow in his hand, a strong boy will be born to him who will be a man of writing and letters.

Whoever sees that he has sold his bow has preferred what he has of religion and worldly life over anything else.

Whoever sees that he is shooting in the way of God will gain honor and renown.

Whoever sees that he is competing in archery, the victorious competitor rises above the one he defeats and obtains something he needs from him.

Whoever sees that he is shooting with a pellet-bow is slandering someone. Shooting a pellet-bow in the open country is hunting and lawful spoils; in the town it is casting lies and falsehood. If he sees that in the town he shot a sparrow with a pellet, he will tell lies and falsehoods about an important man; if the pellet hits it, he incurs sin in that. Shooting it at the ruler's gate is backbiting people and mocking them. If he shoots a dove, he is slandering his wife [i.e. accusing her of unchastity]. If he shoots an arrow from a pellet-bow, he says something that is beside the point: if it hits, it is accepted from him, and if it misses, it rebounds on him. A pellet-bow, for one who owns it, is transgression. A crossbow worked with the foot [qaws al-rijl] is illness in the joints. A bow for shooting arrows [qaws al-nushshab] is long life. Whoever breaks his bow loses a little and gains much, and is like the proverbial lame man [an obscure proverb in the source]. The carder's bow [used by the mattress-maker] is squandering money and rejoicing without cause for joy. The bow-drill is provision, profit and livelihood, and so is the turner's bow. A man said: I saw in a dream that I took hold of a bow and fitted a string to it. He [the interpreter] said to him: The bow is the heart of a market [the letters of qaws, rearranged, give suq, market], and you are offering some goods of yours in the market to sell. He said: Yes, I sent a garment I had to the market to sell it.
