Peace be upon him. Whoever sees him in a dream, it signifies martyrdom if he is cheerful. Whoever sees him angry will die without repentance. Whoever wrestles with 'Azra'il, or overcomes him, will escape an illness; if 'Azra'il overcomes him, he will die.
(Whoever sees) 'Azra'il, his life will be long, because 'Azra'il, peace be upon him, is longer-lived than all creatures.
(Whoever sees) 'Azra'il will enter into a matter that is unavoidable for him. It is also said seeing him is great fear. Whoever takes on the form of 'Azra'il will subdue people and his standing will become great, or he will become the swordsman of the king's vengeance, or great matters will take place at his hands.
(Whoever sees) that he is kissing the Angel of Death will receive an inheritance. Seeing 'Azra'il, peace be upon him, signifies the scattering of a gathering, the loss of what is in safekeeping, the death of the sick, demolition, fire, alarming news and the like, which bring on screaming, slapping of faces and weeping. Seeing him may signify fines, stagnation of livelihood, the halting of activity and refraining from earning. It signifies prison, breaking a covenant, forgetting knowledge, abandoning prayer, withholding zakat and the payment of obligatory dues. It signifies withdrawal from people, high prices, and the response [perhaps a corruption of 'blight'] in crops and fruits. It may signify a king who subdues his subjects, or his chamberlain. For one who works with glass bottles and vessels, seeing him may signify the stagnation of his craft, the reverse of seeing Israfil, peace be upon him. Seeing him signifies the [resurrection] creation and the return of bodies to what they were, by the permission of God the Exalted. Seeing Israfil and 'Azra'il may signify humiliating enemies and refuting those who deny the resurrection and the raising of the dead. For those who love God the Exalted, seeing 'Azra'il signifies reaching one's hope, attaining one's aim, the fulfilment of a promise, going out from hardship to ease, and messages bearing good tidings.
