May God honour his face. Seeing him in a dream signifies victory over enemies. If he is seen in a place with people prostrating to him or carrying him on their necks, it signifies their partisanship [Shi'ism] and their gathering in civil strife. If a scholar sees him, he will attain knowledge, devotion, majesty and strength over those who debate him. For the dreamer, captivity or being moved from place to place by a misfortune is feared. Most often, whoever sees these imams, may God be pleased with them, in a dream will die a martyr. If the dreamer is a king, he will conquer a well-fortified fortress and have a fine reputation. Seeing 'Ali, may God honour his face, may signify children and grandchildren and noble descendants. Seeing him signifies the suppression of the protected non-Muslims (ahl al-dhimma), especially the Jews. Seeing him may signify the caliphate, trustworthiness, arduous journeys, spoils for the believers, and the manifestation of miracles of saints (karāmāt). Whoever sees him will be honoured with knowledge and granted generosity, courage and asceticism. Whoever sees him alive will become praised, and God will grant him judgment, authority that is carried out, piety and following of the Sunna.
(Whoever sees) 'Ali (may God be pleased with him) as an old man with weapons, the dreamer will become connected to the sultan and attain benefit and elevation. Whoever sees him in middle age, his position with his sultan will be strengthened. Whoever sees him with white hair and beard while he is a jurist, his standing in jurisprudence will weaken. Whoever sees him in battle dress in one of the cities of the Muslims, strife by sword or by tongue will break out among its people. If he is seen in a place where there are great men, they will all perish. Whoever sees him with his hands dyed [with henna], the dreamer's children will be given victory over him.
(Whoever sees) 'Ali (may God be pleased with him) with a wound on his body, the dreamer is one who will be attacked and removed from his office. If he sees him draw a sword from its sheath, he will command his children to seek office. If he sees him fighting, he will give victory to his children. Whoever sees him in a place, strife may break out in that place.
