Snake (serpent) حية

In a dream it is an enemy, a state (dynasty, turn of fortune), a treasure, a woman or a child. The large serpent (thu'ban), if the man is not afraid of it, is his strength and his rule. The snake is an enemy possessing wealth, because venom is interpreted as wealth. If he sees that he brought it into his house, his enemy will plot against him.

(Whoever sees) that he took hold of it will receive wealth from an enemy in safety. If he killed it, he will defeat an enemy; if the blood flowed onto his hands, his enemy will die and he will inherit his wealth. If it bit him, he will suffer disgrace. If he burned it, the ruler will kill his enemies and triumph over them. If they flew, they (the enemies) will travel away. A small snake is interpreted as a small child: whoever kills a snake, it is the death of a small child. If he sees snakes being killed in the markets, a war will break out and the enemy will defeat the people of that place. If the ruler hunts snakes, he will outwit his enemies and get the better of them. The snake is a man of the ruler's circle, oppressive, concealing his enmity, great in cunning, strong, of hateful name and repulsive appearance. The black ones are more severe in cunning, venom and evil; the white ones are enemies in weakness and feebleness. Whoever is spoken to by a snake with soft, gentle words will obtain joy, or good from an enemy that amazes people. If it speaks to him with thunder and lightning (threats), the aggression will rebound on the enemy, unless along with that there is biting or venom, for action is stronger than words; in that case the action is taken into account and the words disregarded, and in the end victory will go to the one wronged, and he will be saved from that enemy. If he sees a snake come out of a hole (or district) one time and go back another time, it is a devil that grieves him. If he struggles with a snake, he will fight a strong enemy of whom he is afraid and fearful, until they separate, and victory goes to whichever of the two prevails. If it bites him, he will suffer a misfortune from which he will not escape.

(Whoever sees) that he killed a snake on his bed, his wife will die.

(Whoever sees) a snake on his neck and cuts it into three pieces will divorce his wife with three pronouncements of divorce. If he cuts a snake in two halves, he will exact justice from an enemy; if he takes the two halves, he will gain (the submission of) a chief who is an enemy, having children and followers. If he cuts it into three pieces, he will contend with his enemy and triumph, and three of his enemies will submit to him: a chief, a rich man and a man with followers and children. If he eats the snake's flesh raw, he will triumph over his enemy and his wealth and win it with joy; if he eats it cooked, he will triumph over his enemy and obtain lawful wealth from him, and the wealth will come by way of jihad. If its venom strikes him and he swells up, he will dispute with an enemy and suffer something hateful, along with great wealth. If the venom works in him until his flesh and bones are affected, he will fight the enemy and his children will be scattered throughout the lands; and if he dies, he will fight an enemy and the enemy will kill him. The snake's legs and fangs are the enemy's strength and the severity of his cunning. If he turns into a snake, he will change from one state to another and become an enemy of the Muslims. If he sees a snake walking behind him, it is an enemy who wants to plot against him; if it walks in front of him or circles around him, they are enemies who mingle with him but cannot harm him. If he sees a snake without looking at it closely and flees from it, he will be safe from his enemy and defeat him; anyone who is afraid of something without seeing it, that is safety for him from what he fears and is wary of. If he looks at it closely and is afraid of it, he will be struck by fear of an enemy who cannot harm him.
