In a dream it signifies glory, elevation of rank, wealth, beautiful wives, slaves and slave girls. Whoever sees in a dream that he has some of it will become rich after poverty, and will marry, or take a concubine, or buy slaves and profitable merchandise. He may gain knowledge, poetry and prose, and righteous children, if he is worthy of that, and he may attain a high position in proportion to his standing. As for what is made of marble — such as fountain basins [shadirwan], pools, fountains, stands beneath water jars, lion statues from whose mouths water flows, bases, columns and thresholds — all of that, for whoever owns it, comes to possess it, or has the use of it, signifies the passing of worries and troubles, joys and happiness, noble women, beautiful children, benefits, lofty dwellings and provisions. As for marble tombs and carved columns, that signifies a righteous afterlife, fine praise, and lasting, pious endowments [the text reads "times"]. As for marble pieces set into one another [inlay], they signify elegant writing and marriage with large dowries — unless the marble is overdone or something unbefitting is placed in it, for then it signifies doubtful matters concerning wealth, children and spouse. As for the bases of [ẓafar — unclear term], they signify benefits, livelihoods and the spreading of one's renown. As for a water jar of marble or alabaster [marmar], it signifies beautiful women and women of high position. A jar of alabaster or a stone basin may also signify good or evil that passes by a person while he is heedless of it, or the return of what had left him — from the reversal of its name and its repetition: mar-mar [wordplay on marra, "it passed"].
