Thunder without rain in a dream is fear. Thunder is a warning and a threat from a ruler. Thunder may also signify good promises and generous orders, and it may signify the sound of drums. If one sees thunder, he will pay off a debt; if he is sick he will recover; and if he is imprisoned he will be released. Thunder, lightning and rain are fear for the traveler and hope for the one staying at home. Thunder is the chief of police of a great king. Whoever hears crashing thunder in one of the towns, or hears a loud sound, people will die suddenly and strife and killing will break out among them. The sound of thunder signifies dispute and argument, and it signifies a deficiency in one's religion and a loss in one's wealth. If he hears thunder with rain and its sound is not terrifying, it is abundance that will reach the people of that neighborhood.
Whoever sees thunder without lightning, it signifies assassination, cunning, and slander through lies. Whoever hears thunder will hear from the ruler what he dislikes. There is no good in hearing thunder when there is darkness and lightning with it, for that signifies apostasy from religion, especially if there is an earthquake with it, or if the dream is out of its season. Hearing thunder in its season signifies glad tidings, good and blessing; out of its season it signifies an army mobilizing for a military campaign, or strife. Hearing it may signify glorifying God Most High and declaring His oneness. It may also signify illnesses, or hearing tambourines for some joyful occasion that calls for them. If the one who hears it is a sinner, he will repent to God; if an unbeliever, he will embrace Islam. Hearing it may also signify deafness. As for the ruling on thunder by date, it is said: if thunder is heard in a dream and it coincides with the first day of October (Tishrin I), it signifies death in the lands of Syria. If it is within six days of it, food will become cheap and drink and fruit will be plentiful in Egypt. If there is thunder at its end, an epidemic will strike Syria. If it recurs throughout the whole month, it signifies an abundance of wild animals. If he hears thunder in a dream and it happens to be in November (Tishrin II), good will abound in the land of the Berbers and the land of Egypt, two cities among the cities of unbelief in Syria will be conquered, perhaps a comet with a tail will appear, captives will be taken in Syria, perhaps one of the kings of the Arabs will die, birds will perish, injustice will occur in the East, and rain will fall that brings neither harm nor benefit. If the dream is within seven days of it, the winter will be cold and dry and the spring wet. If he hears thunder in a dream and it happens to be within six days of January (Kanun II), there may be a great event of earthquakes and land collapsing in Iraq, perhaps cattle and livestock will perish, and the harvest will be abundant. If the dream is at its end, it warns of an eclipse of the sun and the death of one of the kings of the Arabs; it is also said a star will appear warning of the ruin of a great city, and there will be illness and eye inflammation in Syria. If he hears thunder in a dream and it happens to be on the first day of February (Shubat), it is a sign of the fertility and growth of the land; prices will fall; there will be an epidemic and diseases in the land of Gog and Magog; death will occur in the islands of the seas; prices will be low for the people of Mecca and their land will receive rain; and there will be scattered clouds in Abyssinia. If it is at its end, it signifies that the king in the Maghreb will leave his land for another land, and a rebel will rise against him from among its rivers and trees, but he will rule only a little while. If he hears thunder in a dream and the dream happens to be within six days of March (Adhar), it signifies fertility and good except in wheat and grapevines; olive oil will be plentiful; merchants will be safe; the king will go out from his city to another city to wage war, will achieve his aim and hold it in his hand for a time; he will stay some days among rivers and trees, then go out to the land of the Byzantines (Rum), conquer the solid rock (an impregnable stronghold), and kill a number of the chiefs, nobles and commanders of that person's house; and the land of Syria will be fertile. If there is thunder at its end, locusts will multiply and many goats and cattle will die. If he hears thunder in a dream and it coincides with the twenty-first of April (Nisan), it signifies fertility in the land and the vineyards, abundant rains and the safety of the fruits; the Byzantines will leave their land for another land, perhaps the Maghreb, and raid them. If the first of April happens to fall on a Sunday, there will be alarm in March, oppression will break out among the Byzantines, their king will die, they will be defeated, and plague will strike them; Syria will be safe from their scheming; and the Nubians will go out to a land not their own and cause corruption in it. If the thunder is within four days of it, it is prosperity: wheat and grapes will be good, but disagreement will arise among people, there will be many illnesses, and there will be fear for the threshing floors. If there is thunder on the eleventh of it, earthquakes and harm will strike the people. If on the thirteenth, severe high prices will strike the people. If on the seventeenth, kings and their ministers will hate one another. On the twenty-second of it there will be a severe, dreadful illness. If on the twenty-third, there will be low prices and abundance. On the twenty-fifth there will be severe high prices. If on the twenty-ninth, it signifies good, relief and joy. If he hears thunder in a dream and the dream is within nine days of May (Ayyar), it signifies the death of nobles in al-Yamama; death will strike the Turks and likewise the sheep; rain will be plentiful and the good of the orchards will abound. If it is in its middle ten days, there will be illnesses. If thunder is heard in a dream and the dream is in June (Haziran) up to the tenth day of it, it signifies the death of scholars and nobles in the land of Egypt; prices will become low, rivers will swell, wealth will grow, and game on land and sea will be plentiful. If thunder is heard and the dream is in July (Tammuz) up to the sixth day of it, rain will come in December, the crops will come early and flourish, great men among the Byzantines will die, prices will fall, war will break out in the land of the Persians, evil will befall the land of Egypt from the direction of the king, captives will be taken from among their families, and a king will come from the East and carry them off to his land as prisoners. If the thunder is at its end, or with seven days remaining, it signifies safety throughout the whole earth; prices will be low in the land of Basra and the land of Abyssinia; the land will flourish as far as the farmland of the Euphrates; a blight will strike some fruits such as dates and bananas; and wheat will be plentiful. If it is at the end of the year, it is feared that the people's king will be killed. If thunder is heard in a dream and the dream is in the month of August (Ab), it is a sign of good for the people of Syria and the people of Jurjan and Azerbaijan; the sea will be closed; roads will be cut off because of corruption; locusts will be few; the king of Gog and Magog will die and killing will break out among them. If there is thunder at its end, there will be fertility in the land of Egypt, its Nile will rise abundantly, and its prices will become low after drought, high prices and death; it may also signify upheavals and the breaking up of groups. If thunder is heard in a dream and the dream is within eight days of September (Aylul), rain and fruit will be plentiful; there will be drought at the beginning of the year and abundance at its end; there will be locusts in the land of Kufa and the marshes of Basra, and they will not be fertile; the worms will die that year; severe hunger will strike the people; the Muslims will conquer fortresses; there will be fighting between the Byzantines and the Turks for a long time; Syria will be fertile and its fruits and grains will be safe. If its sound is terrifying, there is fear for the fruit. If it is on the tenth, it signifies little rain that year in the Maghreb. And God Most High knows best and is wisest in His knowledge of the unseen.
