In a dream it is collected wealth, if it is sweet. The pomegranate may signify a woman, and it may be a prosperous district. The pomegranate is wealth and a child. A pomegranate is interpreted as a thousand dirhams, or a hundred, or ten, according to the dreamer's circumstances. For a ruler, the pomegranate is interpreted as a city: if he breaks it open, he will conquer a city; its rind is the city wall, its seeds are its men, and its pith is its wealth. Whoever eats pomegranate rinds in his dream will recover from an illness. The pomegranate is interpreted as a locked chest, and it may signify a beehive and a honeycomb. If the seeds are white, it signifies dirhams; if red, dinars [gold coins]. It is also said that the pomegranate signifies fright or a journey. When the pomegranate is interpreted as a woman, she is beautiful: if it is whole, she is a virgin; if broken, she has been married before. A rotten pomegranate is an unchaste woman. A sour pomegranate is unlawful money; it is also said, worry and grief. Whoever sells a pomegranate is a man who has chosen this world over the Hereafter. Pressing pomegranates and drinking their juice is a man's spending on himself. A pomegranate of uncertain kind, not known whether sweet or sour, is treated like a sweet one. The pomegranate tree is a wealthy man of religion and dignity, and its thorns restrain him from sins and indecencies; if he is a ruler, he will overcome other rulers, and if a merchant, his trade will increase. Cutting down a pomegranate tree signifies severing ties of kinship. The pomegranate tree may signify fright. It is also said that a sweet pomegranate is lawful provision gained with toil, a sour one is worry and trouble, and a sweet-and-sour one is provision with something doubtful in it.
