Dream meaning · al-Nabulsi

Book (letter, document) كتاب

In a dream it is strength: whoever sees a book in his hand will obtain strength. A book (or letter) is publicized news if it is open, and hidden news if it is sealed. If it is in a boy's hand, it is good news; if it is in a slave girl's hand, it is news containing good tidings; if it is in a woman's hand, it is the expectation of a matter bringing relief. If it is open and the woman is veiled, it is publicized news calling for caution; and if she is perfumed and beautiful, it is good and a matter in which there is fine praise.

(Whoever sees) a folded book in his hand will die soon. If he sees that he received an open decree from the imam (ruler), he will attain authority, happiness and blessings. If he sees that he sent a sealed letter to someone who returned it to him: if he is a ruler and has sent an army against that person, they will be defeated; if he is a merchant, he will lose in his trade; and if he is proposing marriage, he will not marry. If he sees his book in his right hand while there is a dispute, doubt or confusion between him and a man, clarity will come to him; if he is in torment, deliverance from it will come to him; and if he is in hardship, worried or away from his homeland, his affair will be made easy and he will return to his family happy. If he sees his book in his left hand, he will regret something he did. A book in the right hand is a year of plenty. If someone takes it from him with his right hand, that person will take from him the dearest thing he has, or from its direction. If an unbeliever sees a copy of the Quran or an Arabic book in his hand, he will be forsaken and fall into worry, grief, distress or hardship.

(Whoever sees) that he tore up a book, his griefs will go and trials and evils will be lifted from him, or he will obtain good. Likewise, if a believer sees a Persian book in his hand, humiliation and distress will befall him.

(Whoever sees) that a sealed letter came to him will submit to a king, obey him and yield to him. It is also said:

(Whoever sees) a sealed book will obtain good, great leadership and an agreeable governorship in which near and far obey him; and if he is seeking a woman in marriage, he will win her; the seal is the confirmation of that matter.

(Whoever sees) a blank white letter with no writing on it arriving from an absent person, news of that person will be cut off.

(Whoever sees) a book descend upon him from the sky, it is according to what he understands from it or what falls into his mind: if good, then good; and if evil, then evil. The book may indicate a companionable sitting partner. The book may indicate relief and recovery from illnesses. A bound book whose contents are unknown indicates fraud in a craft, an unknown sale, or a woman advanced in years. A man once said to me: 'I saw that you came to my house with books, put them with me and said, "Take them."' I said to him: 'Various reports have come to you about a man like me.' He said: 'Yes; last night it reached me that so-and-so', and he mentioned a man of knowledge to me, 'said such and such', and he related many things.
