Whoever, being free, becomes a slave in a dream: if he knows who enslaved him, that person may make him beholden through kindness in waking life, or may hold him in bondage through the shameful deeds and slips he has discovered about him. It may also signify a debt he incurs until he becomes a slave to the one he borrowed from, or he becomes a hired hand under someone else's control. Or he may fall ill and endure under the hand of one who gives him orders and forbids him. If his master sells him in the dream, he will gain honor and rank; or he may fall into a trap and humiliation, because the sale of a free man is his humiliation; or he may obtain good, by analogy with the story of Joseph, peace be upon him. When a slave becomes free in a dream, it signifies ease after hardship, deliverance from difficulties, payment of debt, recovery from illnesses and the attainment of hopes. Or he may be a true servant of God the Exalted, who enjoins what is right, forbids what is wrong, performs the prayer, pays the alms and fears God the Exalted. A slave in a dream is worry.
(Whoever sees) that he is a slave will be struck by worry. If he sees that he is being sold, he will meet hardship — unless a woman buys him, in which case he will be honored, and his honor will be in proportion to his price. An unmarried woman who becomes a slave-girl in a dream will marry. Likewise, if a man sells his wife, he will divorce her. Whoever becomes the owned slave of his enemy will be subdued and humiliated, because slaves are subdued by their masters.
