Whoever sees in a dream that he is shooting with a catapult [mangonel], that is treachery and scheming. It may signify slandering scholars and humiliating them, or slandering chaste women and attacking the religion. Seeing it may signify civil strife in the place where it is seen set up. Shooting arrows in a dream is a sign of speaking against people's honor for one's own ends. It may signify dispatching messengers: if the arrows have heads, they are effective messengers through whom the aim is achieved; if they have no heads, it signifies failure in what he seeks. Whoever shoots an arrow and is himself the one shot and struck will attain his need through nearness to God the Exalted; if [his need] is in the world, he will attain its honor.
Whoever sees two ranks of people shooting at one another: those who hit the mark dispute with right, and those who miss argue their dispute with falsehood.
Whoever sees that he is shooting arrows at people is hurling bad words at them.
Whoever sees that he shoots and misses has a vile tongue with which he talks about people's honor.
Whoever sees that he shoots at a target and does not miss will achieve what he wants from a matter about which he is sending a letter or a messenger. Whoever shoots at a person and does not hit him is hurling false words at him; if he hits him, the words he says about him [are true]. [Whoever sees] that he is shooting arrows on a mountain to the east and to the west, wearing new white clothes, will obtain kingship and authority if he is worthy of it and from a house of rulership; the arrows are his letters that he dispatches in his messages and commands. Shooting pellets [with a pellet-bow] is stoning; it is said that shooting pellets in a settled area is slander, on account of that shooting; but if the shooting is in open country for hunting, it is spoils and gain. Whoever is struck by an arrow and his blood flows will obtain benefit from a great man. Whoever has arrows land in his heart, those are the glances of a handsome young man or a beautiful young woman.
Whoever sees that he is shooting with a catapult at one of the enemies' fortresses, that is righteous speech he utters or a supplication he makes to God the Exalted.
