Ring (Signet Ring) خاتم

In a dream it is safety, authority, a wife, a child and work, according to its substance. It signifies a slave girl and money. Whoever sees a ring of gold while his wife is pregnant, she will give birth to a boy. A ring, for a sultan, signifies his kingdom; its stone is the effectiveness of his command, and the engraving on it is his aim. Whoever sees that the stone of his ring fell out, his child will die or he will lose some of his wealth. Breaking the ring signifies divorcing one's wife. The ring is the purchase of a house, a riding animal, or a governorship. If it is of gold, it is humiliation for a man.

(Whoever sees) that he wore a ring of iron, it signifies good that he will obtain after toil, because the toil of iron is great toil. If it is of gold and has a stone, it is good; if it is without a stone, it signifies deeds in which there is no benefit. Rings of horn or ivory are praiseworthy for women.

(Whoever sees) that the king stamped with his seal-stamp, it is a swift authority from his authority that will not fail him, because the stamp is stronger than the ring.

(Whoever sees) that he wore a ring of silver and carried out (his commands) with it wherever he wished and was permitted to do so will obtain authority, because the kingdom of Solomon (peace be upon him) was from God Most High in his ring.

(Whoever sees) that he put on the caliph's ring: if he is of Banu Hashim or of the Arabs, he will obtain a great governorship; if he is of the clients (non-Arab freedmen) and has a father, his father will die and he will become the successor; and if he has no father, his affair will turn into the opposite of what he hopes. Whoever finds a ring, money will come to him from non-Arabs, or a child will be born to him, or he will marry a righteous woman, or buy a slave girl.

(Whoever sees) the stone of his ring wobbling, his authority is on the verge of dismissal. If he sees that his ring was pulled off and he is a governor, it is his dismissal, or the loss of his kingdom, or the divorce of his wife; and for a woman, the death of her husband or of the person closest to her. It is also said that the ring, if a person wears it, signifies that he will be bound (restricted). If he sees that the band broke and went away while the stone remained, his authority will go while his renown, beauty and dignity remain. If the ring is of gold, innovation will enter his rule, harm will befall him in his religion, there will be treachery in his kingdom, and he will be unjust to his subjects. If the ring is tight, he will find relief from a sharp-tongued woman, or from a kingdom in which there is toil, or a worry and constriction that came from a king will be lifted from him. If he borrowed a ring, he will own something that will not last.

(Whoever sees) that he found an engraved ring will obtain something he never owned before, such as a house, a riding animal, a wife, a slave girl or a child. If he sees rings being sold in the market, it is the buying up of the properties of people's leaders. If he sees the sky raining rings, sons will be born that year. An unmarried man who sees that he put on a ring will marry a rich virgin woman; if the ring is of gold, she is a woman whose money has gone (dhahab). If he sees his ring now on his little finger, now on his ring finger, now on his middle finger, while he does nothing with it, his wife is betraying him. If he sold his ring for dirhams, flour or sesame, he will part from his wife with kind words or with money. The stone is a child. If the stone of his ring is a jewel, it is authority with standing, splendor, much wealth, renown and honor. If its stone is chrysolite, then if it is authority, it is the authority of a brave, awe-inspiring, strong man; and if it relates to a child, he is a well-mannered, sensible, clever child. If its stone is a bead, it is a weak and contemptible authority. If the stone is a green ruby, a believing, learned and understanding child will be born to him. A wooden ring is a hypocritical woman. If a woman is given a ring, she will marry or give birth. A gold ring for women: if it relates to the husband, she will see joy; if it relates to a child, it will be a precious child; and if it relates to wealth, it will be that kind of wealth, clothing and the like, in which is her mastery. Whoever among men puts on a gold ring, the sultan will bind him, or he will suffer fear, hardship, humiliation or distress from his direction, or someone will be angry with his child, his wife or his trade. It is also said that whoever obtains a ring will obtain a beautiful woman and good, or hear news that pleases him. Whoever wears a ring with two stones, one toward the inside of his palm and the other toward the back of the hand, with the engraving of each not differing from the other, will hold two governorships, an outward one and an inward one. Whoever wears an agate ('aqiq) ring, barrenness ('uqr) will leave him. Taking a ring from the king is a house he will live in, or silver he will obtain, or a woman he will marry, whose face is the stone. Taking a ring from God, Mighty and Majestic, is for the ascetic worshipper (protection) from evil at the completion of his life's end (khatima — a play on khatam, "ring"). Taking a ring from the Prophet (God bless him and grant him peace) or from a scholar is glad tidings of attaining knowledge — this if the ring is silver; if it is gold there is no good in it; likewise if it is iron, because that is the ornament of the people of the Fire; or copper (nuhas), because of the word "ill omen" (nahs) in it. Solid cast rings are always good. Hollow, puffed-up rings with stuffing inside signify treachery and cunning, because there is something hidden in them; or they signify hope for something great and many benefits, because their size is greater than their weight. A ring of lead is authority with weakness in it. The ring of Solomon (peace be upon him): for whichever king sees it in his hand, it signifies the expansion of his kingdom, his conquest of cities and attaining his goals; he may be deposed from his kingdom and then return to it. If he is one who makes a living by summoning jinn, he will obtain abundant provision from that.

(Whoever sees) that he sent his ring to a people and they returned it will propose marriage to a family and they will reject him.

(Whoever sees) that his ring was pulled from him violently, his authority, or what is attributed to him, will go from him.

(Whoever sees) that it was lost, something he dislikes will enter into his authority or what is attributed to him and will come to him.
