In a dream, rain, if no harm comes from it, is goodness, provision and mercy. Rain may indicate the survival of someone — a person or a land — whose life was feared for, and it may indicate the fulfillment of what a person has been promised. If the rain is confined to a specific known place, it indicates the grief of its people, or a worry that befalls the dreamer because of the loss of someone he cares about. If the rain is widespread and harmful, such as the sky raining blood or stones, it indicates sins and acts of disobedience; and if the dreamer is a traveler, his journey may be held up. Destructive rain in a specific place may indicate cheating in measure and weight, or imitating the people of Lot. Beneficial rain may indicate reconciliation with enemies, and rain may indicate rescuing the distressed. Rain is a camel caravan, just as a camel caravan is rain. Whoever sees that the sky rained and the water of the clouds dripped from every side, people will gain abundance and joy, and springs will gush forth.
Whoever sees widespread rain, a dead matter of his will be revived, and he will attain good, grace and blessing; and if he is distressed or in debt, he will be relieved.
Whoever sees that the rain came to him quickly will be granted good, ample provision without hardship. Rain is relief and succor in that year.
Whoever sees rain falling on his house alone, and not on other people, will gain benefit, good and honor. If he sees it over the whole town, the interpretation applies to all the people of that town, neighborhood, place and village.
Whoever sees rain flowing from every side, cutting down trees and overturning them, it is civil strife and destruction that will occur in that place on the part of the ruler. Rain on a specific house may be illnesses, pains, calamities and smallpox occurring in it. If the earth is rained upon with blood, it is torment, and likewise a rain of stones. If the rain is mostly blood or dust, it is injustice from the ruler. If a farmer sees rain, it is good news and fertility that he will receive. It is also said that if the rain is dust without dustiness (haze), it is uproar. If the rain is honey, or a desirable kind of fruit, it is a sign of good for all people, and likewise if it is clarified butter, milk, oil or the like. Rain indicates God’s mercy, His religion, His relief and His help, and the Quran, knowledge and wisdom, because water is the life of creation through the soundness of the earth, and its absence means the destruction of people and livestock and the corruption of affairs on land and sea — so how much more so if its water is milk, clarified butter or honey! It may indicate calamities descending from the sky, such as locusts, hail and wind, especially if there is fire in it and its water is hot. It may indicate civil strife and bloodshed, especially if its water is blood. It may indicate ailments and illnesses if it comes out of its season, at a time when it causes harm.
Whoever sees himself in the rain under a roof or a wall: either harm will reach him through words and abuse, or he will be beaten in proportion to the rain that hit him. If it is in its season, it means he will be held back from his journey or his work, or because of a sick person of his, or because of his poverty, or he will be confined in prison in proportion to it. If he bathes in the rain from major ritual impurity (janaba), or purifies himself with it for prayer, or washes his face with its water, or washes away an impurity on his body or clothes with it: if he is an unbeliever, he will embrace Islam; if he is an innovator or a sinner, he will repent; if he is poor, God the Exalted will make him rich; and if he has a need with the ruler or someone else, it will be fulfilled.
Whoever sees the sky raining swords, people will be afflicted with arguments and disputes; and if it rains watermelons, they will fall ill.
Whoever sees that he is drinking rainwater: if it is clear, he will receive good; and if it is muddy, he will contract an illness in proportion to the amount of water he saw himself drinking.
