Water ماء

In a dream it is a good life. Whoever sees it in his home, it is happiness, gathered wealth, spoils and an increase of good. It is also marriage, because of His saying, the Exalted:

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ مِنَ ٱلْمَآءِ بَشَرًا فَجَعَلَهُۥ نَسَبًا وَصِهْرًا ۗ وَكَانَ رَبُّكَ قَدِيرًا

“And it is He who has created from water [i.e., semen] a human being and made him [a relative by] lineage and marriage. And ever is your Lord competent [concerning creation].”

Quran 25:54 · Saheeh International

Whoever sees that water is clear and plentiful, prices will become cheap and justice will spread. Chewing water is great toil in earning a living. Drinking it is safety from the enemy and a fertile year for the one who drinks. If in sleep he drinks more water than he used to drink while awake, it signifies his long life. Whoever drinks water from a cup and it does not satisfy him, his wife is rebellious toward him. If he stretches his hand out into water, he will handle money and confuse his own affairs. Ibn Sirin, may God the Exalted have mercy on him, said: Water in sleep is a trial in religion, because of His saying, the Exalted:

وَأَلَّوِ ٱسْتَقَـٰمُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَـٰهُم مَّآءً غَدَقًا ۝ لِّنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ ۚ وَمَن يُعْرِضْ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِۦ يَسْلُكْهُ عَذَابًا صَعَدًا

“And [Allāh revealed] that if they had remained straight on the way, We would have given them abundant rain [i.e., provision]. So We might test them therein. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord He will put into arduous punishment.”

Quran 72:16–17 · Saheeh International

And it is an affliction, because of His saying, the Exalted:

“And when Saul went forth with the soldiers, he said, "Indeed, Allāh will be testing you with a river. So whoever drinks from it is not of me, and whoever does not taste it is indeed of me, excepting one who takes [from it] in the hollow of his hand." But they drank from it, except a [very] few of them. Then when he had crossed it along with those who believed with him, they said, "There is no power for us today against Goliath and his soldiers." But those who were certain that they would meet Allāh said, "How many a small company has overcome a large company by permission of Allāh. And Allāh is with the patient."”

Quran 2:249 · Saheeh International

(to the end of) the verse.

Whoever sees that he is given water in a cup, that is a sign of a child.

Whoever sees that he is drinking clear water from a glass cup will receive good from his child and his wife, because glass is of the same essence as women, and the water is a fetus.

Whoever sees that he is drinking hot water will be struck by severe grief.

Whoever sees that he was thrown into clear water will be delighted by a surprise.

Whoever sees that he is in water is in trial, affliction and grief.

Whoever sees that he has a large jar of clear water, it is inherited wealth.

Whoever sees that he is drawing water goes about among people spreading lies. Still (stagnant) water is confinement: whoever sees that he fell into still water, it is imprisonment and grief. It is said that still water is in every case weaker in interpretation than flowing water. Foul-smelling water is a miserable, deficient life. Bitter water is a bitter life. Very hot water, if used during the day, is torment, hardship and punishment, and at night it is fright from the jinn. Salty water is toil in earning a living. Turbid, foul-smelling water is unlawful wealth. Black water is the ruin of the houses in which it is; if he drinks it, his eyesight is feared for. Yellow water is illness. If he sees that the king’s water has become brackish or has sunk into the ground, God the Exalted has changed the blessing He bestowed on that king because he abandoned gratitude and withheld good. All turbid water is difficulty and fatigue.

Whoever sees that he is drinking seawater while it is turbid will be struck by worry from the king. If it flows in his neighborhood, or a person drinks it, it is illness for him; if all the people drink it, it is illness for them. It is said that turbid water is a tyrannical ruler.

Whoever sees that he bathed in turbid water and came out of it: if he is in hardship, he will come out of it; if he is sick, God the Exalted will heal him; if he is imprisoned, he will be saved — provided the water is pure. Salty water is grief. Black water, if drawn out of a well, is a woman he will marry in whom there is no good.

Whoever sees that he is walking on water in a sea or a river, that is strength of faith and certainty in God the Exalted, if accompanied by pious speech and what indicates wisdom; otherwise he will become certain about a matter in which he was in doubt and confusion. It is also said that he will travel on dangerous journeys relying on God.

Whoever sees that he is walking on water is taking a risk; and if he comes out of it, all his needs will be fulfilled.

Whoever sees that he fell into a great deal of deep water and went down into it without reaching its bottom will obtain much worldly wealth and become rich from it, because this world is a deep sea. It is also said rather that he will become involved in the affairs of an important man; if the river overpowers him, he will fall gravely ill; and if he drowns in it, he will die of his illness.

Whoever sees that he fell into water will obtain happiness and blessing.

Whoever sees that he looked into clear water and saw his face in it: if he sees it handsome, he will treat his household and neighbors well. If he looks down over clear water, he is on the brink of much good.

Whoever sees that he poured water into a sea will spend money on a woman; and if he poured it in a place where it is of no use, he will waste as much of his wealth. Overwhelming water is worry, torment and trial in proportion to its strength.

Whoever sees that the water has risen in a town or village and exceeded its limit until it entered the houses and their people were on the verge of drowning, great strife and discord will occur there and the wicked will perish. If he sees water flowing over his roof, an imminent grief or a lasting affliction will reach him from the ruler. Sweet water is lawful provision, contentment of heart, knowledge, and life for one on the verge of death, because of His saying, the Exalted:

أَوَلَمْ يَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ كَانَتَا رَتْقًا فَفَتَقْنَـٰهُمَا ۖ وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمَآءِ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ حَىٍّ ۖ أَفَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

“Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and then We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?”

Quran 21:30 · Saheeh International

Sometimes water signifies a wife for a single man and a husband for a single woman; if he drinks it from a permissible vessel, it is a valid marriage, and if from a forbidden vessel, it is an invalid marriage. Sometimes drinking water signifies the drink of the Sufi poor and what the members of chivalric brotherhoods (futuwwa) exchange among themselves.

Whoever sees that he is thirsty and sees that he is drinking water, his crops will thrive, his fear will calm, his poverty will turn to wealth, and he will be reunited with his family. If he bathes with it at a time when it does him no harm, his debt will be paid. If sweet water turns salty, he will apostatize from his religion or return to his misguidance, or his affairs will become difficult. If he carries water in a vessel, his wife will conceive. An increase of water at the time of its decrease, or its decrease at the time of its increase, is a sign of tyranny, financial penalty, high prices and disunity. Clear waters signify the healing of an inflamed eye. Water bursting forth in a place is worry and grief. Green water is a long-lasting illness; it is also said a miserable life. Whoever drinks black water will lose his sight.

Whoever sees that he is sucking water will have trouble in his livelihood.

Whoever sees that hot water was poured on him without his knowing will be imprisoned, fall ill, or be struck by severe worry or a fright from the jinn in proportion to its heat.

Whoever sees that his clothes or his cloak got wet with water will stay put instead of traveling, or be held back from something he intended, or a matter of his will not be completed.

Whoever sees that he is carrying water in a vessel: if he is poor, he will gain wealth; if he is rich and single, he will marry; and if he is married, his wife will conceive by him.

Whoever sees that he carried water in a bundle, a cloth, or something in which water cannot be carried is deluded about his wealth, his situation or his life.

Whoever sees that he was given water in a glass cup or a goblet while he has a pregnant wife, and one of them fell from his hand and broke, the wife will die; and if the water is lost but the cup or goblet does not break, the child will die and the wife will be safe.

Whoever sees that he is drinking water from a jug, a goblet or the like while he is single will marry.

Whoever sees that he is emptying water into a jar, a large pot or the like will marry a woman. Bathing in cold water is repentance, recovery from illness, release from prison, payment of debt, and safety from fear. Whoever draws water from a well will obtain wealth by stratagem and cunning.

Whoever sees that he drew water and watered an orchard or a field with it will gain wealth from a woman; if the orchard bears fruit or the crop comes into ear, he will have a child from that woman.
