In a dream it is an affliction. Whoever sees that he is in love will be tried. The lover is one who longs for righteousness or wickedness, and love in the heart is a temptation (fitna) for the one who has it; if he sees temptation in his heart, it is love. If he sees that he did a deed his heart desires, he will do a deed that has no end. If he sees a man say to him, "I love you," that man hates him.
Whoever sees that he satisfies every desire he wants and nothing stops him will meet every affliction, and his heart will be corrupted. Passionate love is worry and sorrow: whoever sees that he is in love will meet worry and sorrow, because lovers are worried and sorrowful. Love also signifies the disclosure of words he was unable to conceal. Love is a trial in waking life and a renown that makes people sympathize with him. It signifies poverty, and death for the sick. Death in a dream may signify passionate love and separation from the beloved, and life after death is the lover's union with the beloved. Cauterizing and burning in a dream are passionate love; entering Paradise in a dream is union with the beloved, just as entering the Fire is separation. Infatuation and love are heedlessness and a deficiency in religion, and passionate love is corruption in religion and loss of wealth. This was already covered under the letter Ḥāʾ in "Love" (ḥubb).
