In a dream, whoever climbs up it for a need will exert himself to obtain this world and the next, according to what he intended in the dream. The steep pass may signify a stubborn woman or a man of fierce might who can only be won over by gentleness. It may signify a companion or partner who cannot be trusted with money or life. It may signify knowledge by which one is saved from dangers; He the Exalted said:
فَلَا ٱقْتَحَمَ ٱلْعَقَبَةَ وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْعَقَبَةُ
“But he has not broken through the difficult pass. And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?”
Quran 90:11–12 · Saheeh International
Steep passes may signify troubles, hardships and perils, so climbing them is likewise, and coming down from them is safety from that. Steep passes may signify punishment (ʿiqāb) and discipline [wordplay: ʿaqaba / ʿiqāb]. The pass may signify what one treads upon: a riding animal, a wife, a slave woman, a bridge or an arch. Traveling over it may signify a rise in rank through knowledge, good governance, profound wisdom, good conduct, or keeping faith and being tactful. If he sees that he fell from its top to its bottom, his rank will drop, or his condition will be taken from him, or he will apostatize from his religion, or return to what he was before. Every ascent a person sees upon a pass, a hill, a roof and the like means he will obtain what he seeks in fulfilling the need he wants. Climbing on level ground is hardship with no good in it.
Whoever sees that he descended from a hill, a palace or a mountain, the matter he is seeking will diminish and not be completed.
