Lip شفة

In a dream it is the helper a man takes pride in, and his power of eloquence, or the friend who is an ornament to him. The lower lip is better than the upper. The upper lip is his friend on whom he relies in all his affairs. Whatever happens to the lips happens to those we have mentioned. The two lips also stand for the wife, children and relatives. If he sees pain and soreness in them, it signifies that the affairs of his friends are not going as they should.

Whoever sees his lip cut off is a backbiter. If it is the lower lip, the one who helps him in his affairs will be cut off from him. Whoever's upper lip disappears, his blessing will disappear; and if the lower one disappears, his wife will die or he will divorce her. If he sees his upper lip split, the one person assigned to that lip becomes two: if the lower lip splits, it is interpreted as two wives, and if it is the upper lip, two friends. If it heals, his two friends will agree with him in his affairs; and if it is severed, he will part from his friend and break with him. The lip is a man's strength and adornment. The lip (shafa) is kinship; its plural is shifah, so it signifies healing (shifa') from illnesses, the humbling of the envious, and news that satisfies the heart. The lips may signify veils (doorkeepers), servant boys, guards, doors and locks. They may signify knowledge, guidance, eating and drinking, relief and sorrow, and keeping secrets. Whoever loses his lips in a dream, it signifies losing his doorkeeper, his servants or his guards; or his door will collapse, his lock will not work, or his key will be lost. It may signify the death of the parents, or of a married couple, one of them lying upon the other (as the lips lie one on the other). The lips may signify a steady livelihood for flute players, trumpeters and the like, such as the maker of blown sweets (but not their seller), the glassblower and similar craftsmen who work by blowing. Thin, red lips signify eloquence, guidance, wholesome food and drink, and joys. Thick, heavy, black or blue lips signify an argument being established against one and lack of ease in earning. Black or blue lips for a sick person may signify his death, because that is one of the signs of death. In their closing together, the lips may signify the eyelids, because of their opening and closing.
