Dream meaning · al-Nabulsi

Iblis (Satan), the accursed إبليس اللعين

In a dream he indicates absent-mindedness. A man said to al-Hasan [al-Basri]: "O Abu Sa'id, does Iblis sleep?" He smiled and said: "If he slept, we would find rest." Seeing him in a dream points to an innovating scholar. It indicates abandoning prayer, lying, embezzlement, acquiring sins and misdeeds, and long life. Seeing him indicates scheming, deception, sorcery, and separation between husband and wife, by analogy with his story with Adam, peace be upon him. Seeing him may indicate apostasy from religion, because he was a worshipper of God the Exalted and then, by his disobedience, became an outcast, driven far away. Further, in interpretation he points to an unbelieving king residing by the sea who equips soldiers, cavalry and infantry. God the Exalted said:

“And incite [to senselessness] whoever you can among them with your voice and assault them with your horses and foot soldiers and become a partner in their wealth and their children and promise them." But Satan does not promise them except delusion.”

Quran 17:64 · Saheeh International

If he sees that he became Iblis, he will be struck in his eyesight, or apostatize from his religion, or live far removed and die in sorrow; he will be granted offspring and wealth and will triumph over his enemies through cunning. If he is fit for kingship he will rule, and in his time he will command evil and forbid good.

Whoever sees as if he killed Iblis will outwit a schemer and deceiver; and if he is righteous and chaste, he will despair of God's mercy [literally, "of God's affair"].
