Dream meaning · al-Nabulsi

Dirham (Silver Coin) درهم

In a dream it signifies a child for one whose wife is pregnant. It is also said it signifies remembrance of God and glorification of Him. It may signify a painful beating. Some hold that whoever obtains dirhams in a dream will obtain those very dirhams, the same number of them. If the dirhams are in a bundle, a purse or a bag, he will be entrusted with a secret that he will keep for its owner, in proportion to the dirhams he kept. Dirhams signify speech: if they are good ones, they are knowledge, good speech, the meeting of a need, or prayer. The number of dirhams is the number of righteous deeds. Large dirhams signify a wide world (ample worldly means).

(Whoever sees) dirhams tied onto his upper arm, it is a craft that he will acquire.

(Whoever sees) that someone owes him dirhams, he has a testimony against that person; if they are broken pieces, he has deviated from the testimony.

(Whoever sees) that he lost a whole dirham will become ignorant, because he has lost sound speech. The sounds of dirhams and dinars signify good speech. Dirhams with no engraving on them signify speech in which there is scrupulous piety; dirhams bearing images signify innovation for the one who carries them and the one who minted them. Cut-up dirhams are a dispute that does not end. A dream of taking dirhams is better than one of paying them out.

(Whoever sees) that he had ten dirhams and they became five, his wealth will decrease to that extent; if they were five and became ten, his wealth will increase to that extent, and so on for every number: increase signifies increase and decrease signifies decrease. Pure dirhams are the purity of the dreamer's religion and his good dealings with everyone. Dirhams scattered (as largesse) in a dream are good speech.

(Whoever sees) a dirham in his hand that turned into a copper fils will be struck by bankruptcy (iflas — a play on fils). If there was a fils in his hand that turned into a dirham, he will obtain profit, good and sincere advice. If his dirham turned into half, he will lose half the money in his hand; likewise if it turned into a quarter. If the dirham turned into a dinar, he will earn. If the dirham became a piece of gold (dhahab), it is loss (dhahab, "going away"). Finding dirhams is profit and joy. A counterfeit dirham is fraud, lying, deceit, living off the unlawful and committing major sins. It is also said that whoever is given good, freshly minted dirhams will be wept over, and if he pays dirhams to someone, he will weep over him.

(Whoever sees) that a dirham was lost or stolen from him will complain about his child, or something he dislikes will reach him from the child. If he sees that it was snatched from him, or went away from him with no return, his child or someone else will die. Whoever steals a dirham and gives it in charity narrates what he did not hear. Some said that dirhams in a dream are a sign of evil, and so is everything stamped with a die. Bad dirhams are evil speech. Dirhams are ointments (marahim — a play on darahim) with which the wounds of hearts are treated and sorrow is warded off from the grieving. They also signify worry; if they are counterfeit, they indicate deceit in word or deed, and hypocrisy and showing off in one's work. Clear (legible) dirhams are a governorship, a district or collected wealth. They signify imprisonment and beating, and buying and selling. They are security from fear, or abundance of provision. If dirhams are mixed with dinars, they signify the answering of prayer, the meeting of needs and recovery from illnesses. They may signify needs being met by force.
