In a dream it signifies the covering of affairs. It may signify a companion who keeps secrets, and a wife who covers a person's circumstances and keeps him from looking at others. If it is a known curtain, it signifies the worth of whoever it indicates, whether a wife, a child or a house. An unknown curtain is worry for the one who sees it in a dream: if it is at the door of a shop, it is worry about livelihood; if it is at the door of a house, it is worry from the direction of worldly life. An old curtain is worry that does not last.
Whoever sees a torn curtain will rejoice and obtain happiness. A black curtain is worry from [some] quarter, and a curtain on the door of a mosque is worry from the direction of religion. A known curtain that is seen in the dream exactly as it is neither harms nor benefits. Curtains out of their proper places are worry and sorrow; in their proper places they have no interpretation.
Whoever sees a curtain on something other than a door or entrance, or in an unsightly place, it is severe worry and strong fear, but its outcome is good and wellbeing. Whatever of them is large and thick is stronger and more severe, and whatever is thin is lighter and weaker. If he sees that the curtain was cut or taken away, worry and sorrow will leave his mind. It is also said of the curtain: if an unmarried man sees it, he will marry a woman who will shield him from sins and from poverty and need; and likewise a woman who has no husband. A curtain on the door of the house is worry from the direction of women. A worn-out curtain is worry that passes quickly; a new curtain is long worry. A curtain torn lengthwise is quick joy, and one torn crosswise is the ruin of its owner. A black curtain is worry from a king; white and green ones have a praiseworthy outcome. If one who is wanted, afraid, fleeing or hiding sees a curtain over a bed, it is a covering for him, as its name indicates, and safety for him. The bigger the curtain, the greater, more serious and more terrible his worry and grief. [There is also] the curtain that is hung over the front of the hall (iwan).
Whoever sees that it was swallowed into the ground will travel a long journey and suffer great fatigue on that journey. Curtains in a dream, when large and with many fittings, are a sign of circumstances becoming difficult because of bad intermediaries such as doorkeepers. Curtains may signify discretion in affairs, and their being drawn back is a sign of exposure and scandal.
