Wailing (lamentation) نواح

In a dream it indicates the preacher. Hearing wailing indicates the opening of a privy from which a foul smell spreads. It is said wailing is the barking of dogs, and the wailing woman's voice is the sound of the fire's bellows. The tambourine and the cymbals are wailing. It may be a sign of a wedding with musical instruments and singing girls. The wailing of an effeminate man is not praiseworthy in any case.

(Whoever sees) a place where wailing is done, change, ill omen and mismanagement will occur there, by which its people's unity will be broken. Whoever wails publicly over a dead person, if he is known, a calamity will strike him from the descendants of that dead person.

(Whoever sees) that he is wailing over a dead person or over something and grieving intensely, that indicates joy and happiness. Wailing is the stirring up of strife by the wailing woman. It may indicate straying from guidance or apostasy from religion. Wailing may indicate the reed pipe, and the reed pipe wailing. Seeing the wailing woman indicates the reversal of conditions, the ruin of homes and bad deeds, because of his saying (blessing and peace be upon him): “Wailing is a practice of the Age of Ignorance.”
