The shadow of persons in the sun and elsewhere in a dream signifies the world and its vicissitudes and the changing circumstances of its people. Seeing it in a dream may signify repentance, guidance, sound belief in the oneness of God, and reflection on the Maker and the made. If a person moves in the dream and no shadow appears, it signifies the nullifying of arguments, the cessation of command and prohibition, death, and the cessation of his movements and senses; likewise one who loses his shadow in the light of the sun, the moon, a lamp, or water. As for shadows made to dance [shadow-play], it signifies slander, lying, consuming people's wealth wrongfully, and inconstancy in religion and worldly affairs. Speaking through the mouths of figures, or making them dance on a carpet, signifies summoning the jinn and speaking through their tongues, or civil strife and evils.
