In a dream they are the lowest of people and evil talk.
Whoever sees that he has a cane in his hand and is leaning on it, only the least part of his life remains, and he will become poor and die in poverty. The reed is a frugal person who has neither religion nor loyalty. Seeing Persian reed signifies imitation, lawsuits and showing off in deeds; it may signify base money gained through evil and trouble, or goods or a precious gift from Persia. Persian reed and the cubed structures made from it, such as domes, partitions of latticework, and the trellises on which grapevines and the like are trained: seeing them signifies the removal of worry and trouble and an easy life. It may signify the appearance of extravagance, devotion to those who are not free-born, false speech, and showing off in deeds. If the reeds become rods of silver, gold or emerald, it is a sign of righteous deeds that earn Paradise, dwelling in its palaces and sitting beneath its domes, along with what he gains in this world of lawful wealth, pure spouses and children. Reeds are hypocritical people, and if you hear a sound from them, it is a dispute. Sugar cane signifies provision gained with toil and hardship; it may signify the rabble in the market or in the places where it is seen. It may signify nobility of good lineage, or sublime knowledge such as the affirmation of God's oneness, which is the root of all good, or veiled women of high standing, or men who carry out the obligation of fasting and prayer, or the service of the ruler. Reeds, if planted in an unsuitable place, may signify the ruin of the place and the uprooting of its traces and the exposure of its people's condition, or the gathering of women who fall to weeping and wailing, uncovering their heads and shedding tears. Whoever intends a matter, its concealment will be accomplished for him. What has gone out from a person may come back to him in waking life, because a single piece of it is called an 'ud [a stick; also 'returns']. Seeing it may signify the drawing of weapons and the unfurling of banners. The joints [knots] of the stick may be days, months or years, or knots of wealth or marriage contracts. Seeing it peeled signifies the release of the prisoner, the freeing of captives from their bonds, the recovery of the sick, and the digging up of the dead from their graves.
Whoever sees that he is chewing sugar cane will come to a matter about which he talks a great deal and keeps repeating himself, but his talk will be found sweet.
Whoever sees that he is pressing it, or pressing anything else that is pressed, whoever owns it will possess abundance, so long as fire has not touched it; the juice is what counts and the rest is disregarded, because mention of the juice and its benefits outweighs everything else about it. Sugar cane may also signify provision from a miserly man.
