In a dream, seeing it indicates livelihood for its owners. If it is the kind carried around the house, it indicates the master of the house who goes about himself and attends to the needs of his family. A lamp of brass is lasting good; if it is of earthenware, it is less than that. In dreams, the lamp is like the life of the children of Adam and their constitutions: the spirit is like the flame in the lamp, the lamp is the body, the oil is the blood, and the wick is the moisture [of the body]. If the wick and oil are used up from the body, he perishes by the decree and destiny of God Most High. If he sees that the oil and the wick have both been used up in his lamp, his life has gone. If they are both clear [his life is clear]; if they are both murky, his life will be troubled. If the oil of his lamp is murky, his blood is turbid; if he sees his wick murky, his moisture is turbid; and likewise if he sees his lamp vessel murky [his body is unsound]. If he sees all of it clear, his body, his blood and his moisture are clear. If he sees that his lamp is broken and the oil will not stay in it, there is an ailment in his body that will not mend, such as diarrhea that cannot be treated until he dies.
