Night ليل

In a dream it signifies idleness. Whoever sees that all of time has become night, his livelihood will come to a halt; this is if the night has no moonlight. If he sees that all of time is night and the moonlight is visible, the ruler will hand all affairs over to the vizier, and highway robbers and thieves will rely on him. If he sees that daylight has appeared, they will go from worry to relief: if they are besieged, the siege will be lifted from them; if they are suffering high prices, their prices will become cheap; if they are wronged, their grievance will be redressed. Night signifies the union of husband and wife, and day signifies their separation.

Darkness is going astray. If the darkness comes with thunder, lightning and wind, there will be misguidance in the place where he saw it.

Whoever sees darkness in his house will travel on a long journey. Night and day are two rulers who oppose each other: night is an unbeliever and day is a Muslim. They may signify two adversaries or two co-wives. Night may signify rest and day toil and exertion. Night may signify marriage and day divorce. Night may signify slack business and idleness of crafts and journeys, and day brisk sales and the movement of markets and journeys. Night may signify death, because God the Exalted takes the souls of sleepers, and day signifies resurrection. Together they may signify two upright witnesses, because they bear witness against creation. Whoever sees that morning has come: if he is ill, he will recover or die; if imprisoned, he will come out of prison; if a sinner or an unbeliever, he will repent of his disobedience and unbelief; if his trade is slack and his market idle, his goods will sell and his market will pick up. Night falling upon day is interpreted as the opposite of that.

Whoever sees that all of time is night and the people of that region are in distress because of it, it is poverty, hunger and death. Night and day may signify the drawing near of what is far off, whether good or evil, because they wear out everything new and bring near everything distant. Seeing them may signify admonitions, good manners, and falling into what brings regret. Seeing the night may signify the vicissitudes of time and the occurrence of calamities. Night signifies a black woman and day a white woman, and the pregnancy of women. Seeing the night signifies clothing, and the day signifies livelihood. Night may signify the concealment and keeping secret of matters, and safety from fear, unless the dreamer is a traveler, for whom night signifies an injustice that will overwhelm him. It signifies an oath, because of His saying, the Exalted:

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ

“By the night when it covers”

For those devoted to night vigil prayer and to business dealings, night signifies attaining one's hope, fulfillment of needs and reunion with those who are absent.

Whoever sees the night in his dream, or sees himself at night in a state of amusement, that signifies the passing of blessings and the onslaught of calamities. Seeing the noble nights, such as the Night of Power [Laylat al-Qadr], in a dream is glad tidings of every good; if he is seeking something [the word in the source is unclear], he will obtain it. The same is true of seeing the night of mid-Sha'ban, the Night of the Night Journey and the night before Friday.
