In a dream it signifies relying on truthfulness, because it is said, 'Truthfulness is a fortress.' The fortress may signify its owner, or whoever is in it, whether soldiers or enemy. It may signify knowledge and the Quran, and whatever one fortifies oneself with against Satan and his armies, such as amulets of protective prayers and the Great Names [of God]. Its towers are his commanders, its battlements are his guards or soldiers, its arrow-slits are his spies, its gates are his chamberlains, its citadel is his minister, and its outer quarter is his family and relatives, or his treasuries from which he spends and to which things are brought.
If he sees as though he is in a fortress: if kingship befits him, he will rule; or he will marry if he is unmarried, or be granted a child, or buy property, or embrace Islam if he is an unbeliever, or repent and seek God the Exalted's pardon for his sins. The fortress signifies Islam.
Whoever sees that he is in a fortress or a citadel will be granted devotion in his religion, righteousness and abandonment of his sins, in proportion to his position in the fortress and his security in it. If the fortress is in water in waking life, and he sees in the dream that it became a barren wilderness, his enemy will overcome him and take possession of it. If it is in a wilderness and he sees that it became [set] on a mountain or in water, he will be protected from his attacker, who will turn away from him disappointed.
Whoever sees that he destroyed his fortress, his house or his palace, it is the corruption of his religion and his worldly life, or the death of his wife.
Whoever sees as though he is sitting on the battlement of a fortress will gain a brother, a chief, or a child through whom he will be saved. It is said that the fortress is a well-protected man whom no one can overpower.
Whoever sees it from afar, it is the elevation of his renown and the protection of his chastity.
