Elephant فيل

In a dream it is a foreign king, awe-inspiring, dull of heart, a bearer of heavy burdens, skilled in war and fighting. Whoever rides an elephant in a dream, or owns it, or controls it, will be connected to a ruler, attain a lofty rank, and live a long life in honor and elevation. Whoever is mauled by any of these will be struck by a calamity from a person in authority, and if he is sick he will die. Whoever rides an elephant by day will divorce his wife three times [irrevocably], and he may act treacherously and scheme, and his scheming and treachery will turn back upon him, because of His saying, the Exalted:

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْفِيلِ

“Have you not considered, [O Muḥammad], how your Lord dealt with the companions of the elephant?”

Quran 105:1 · Saheeh International

to the end of the surah. The elephant in a dream is an accursed man. Whoever rides an elephant at night with its gear, and it obeys him and submits to him, will rise above a mighty, miserly king and overcome him, if he is fit for rule; if he is not fit for rule, he will meet war and not be given victory, because its rider is always in a plot. If he sees that he rides it with a saddle and it obeys him, he will marry the daughter of a great foreign man, and if he is a merchant his trade will grow great.

Whoever sees that he is summoning elephants will make brotherhood with the kings of the non-Arabs, and they will submit to him in proportion to the elephants' obedience to him. If he sees that he is milking the elephant, he will outwit a mighty king and obtain lawful money from him through proper means. Likewise if he sees that he took something from its trunk, he will obtain lawful money from him. It is also said that the elephant is a king of great bounty, generosity, nobility, patience, tact and gentleness. If he sees that it struck him with its trunk, he will obtain good and blessing. If he rides it, he will obtain a ministry and a governorship. If he takes some of its dung, he will become rich in proportion to what the dreamer sees. The elephant signifies righteous people, scholars and the nobility. It also signifies many hardships, misery and toil from which he is then delivered, because the elephant is born into misery, toil and wretchedness.

Whoever sees an elephant and does not ride it will suffer a decline in himself and a loss in his wealth. If he sees that he rides it, he will attain kingship. If he sees it killed in a town, the king of that town will die, or a noble man well known among the people will be killed. It is also said:

Whoever sees an elephant in a land other than the land of Nubia, it signifies hardship and terror, because of its ugly appearance and color and its unsightliness, especially for one not accustomed to it. If he sees it in the land of Nubia, it signifies a king, a master, or a noble man.

Whoever sees that the elephant threatens him or drives him back, that signifies an illness. If he sees that it threw him beneath it and fell upon him, it signifies the death of the dreamer. If it did not throw him beneath it, it signifies a hardship he will come into and escape from. If a woman sees it, it is not an indication of good, however she sees it.

Whoever sees that he is talking to the elephant will obtain much good from the king. If he sees that the elephant ran after him, he will suffer harm from a king. If the elephant seized him, the harm of his enemies will reach him. If a woman sees that she is riding an elephant, it is an indication of her death. Elephants are interpreted as years.

Whoever sees that he rode an elephant in war will perish.

Whoever sees that he ate elephant meat will receive money from a ruler, and likewise if he took any of its limbs, its hide or its bones. There is no good in seeing the elephant for people of righteousness and scrupulous piety; as for the people of worldly life, it signifies a foreign ruler. If the elephant is seen leaving a town in which there is plague, the plague will leave them.

Whoever sees that he killed an elephant will overpower a foreign man.

Whoever sees people riding elephants and steering them, if they are in war they will be defeated. Riding an elephant may signify injustice and lying, and he may get a foreign woman, if he does not ride it in the manner of riding and not in a land of war.

Whoever sees that an elephant came from one town to another, it is a ruler moving from one town to another.
