In a dream, death is a deficiency and corruption in one's religion, and elevation and honor in this world, if it is accompanied by weeping and wailing and by being carried on men's shoulders on a bier or a coffin, so long as he is not buried in the earth. If he is buried, no good is to be hoped for from him; rather his worldly life will take hold of him, and his followers in his authority will be as many as those who followed his funeral. In any case, he will overpower men and ride upon their necks.
Whoever sees that he died, but there were none of the trappings of the dead, such as weeping, wailing, washing, a shroud, or being carried on a bier or coffin, this indicates that a room of his house, or a wall, will collapse, or a beam in it will break. It is also said rather that it is a weakness in his religion and a blindness in his inner sight, and with that his life will be long. If he sees some of the trappings of the dead, such as washing and the shroud, that is a further deficiency in his religion. Whatever weeping or lamenting there is, that is an elevation of his standing in this world. It is also said that death is a journey and a move. It is also said that death is poverty. Whoever dies and is buried will die without repentance; if he comes out of his grave, he will repent. It is also said that death, in general, is marriage, because the dead person needs perfume and washing just like a bridegroom.
Whoever sees that he died and was carried on men's shoulders and not buried will overpower his enemies, and if he is fit for office, he will attain it.
Whoever sees that he lived again after his death will become rich after poverty or repent of his sin; and if the dreamer is a traveler, he will return safely to his homeland. The death of an unknown woman indicates the withholding of rain from the earth; if she comes back to life, God Most High will revive the earth with rain. If death strikes women, it will strike children, and vice versa, because children are like women in deficiency of religion and lack of reason. Whoever is told by a dead person that he has not died, that dead person is in the station of the martyrs, blessed in the Hereafter.
Whoever sees that he carried a dead person will bear the expenses of a man who has no religion. Whoever carries a dead person in a manner other than the way the dead are carried will gain unlawful wealth. Whoever carries a dead person in the manner of the dead will serve the ruler.
Whoever sees a dead person ill, that person is being questioned about his religion in what is between him and God Most High. If the people of the graves come out of their graves and eat people's food, leaving them nothing, the price of food will rise; and if they drink the sweet water from the wells, a great plague will follow.
Whoever sees a known dead person dying again, with weeping and wailing over him, someone from his descendants or his family will die. If there is no weeping, wailing or lamenting over him, one of his family will marry and have joy, happiness and a wedding. Whatever the dead person tells about himself or someone else in a dream is true and real, because he has passed from the abode of falsehood into the Abode of Truth, so he speaks only the truth, being too occupied for falsehood. If the dead person tells him something that does not come to pass, that is a jumble of confused dreams.
Whoever sees a dead person in a fine appearance, or wearing white or green clothes, smiling and joyful, it is as he saw. If he sees him disheveled and dusty, wearing worn-out clothes, or weeping and frowning, it indicates his bad state; likewise if he sees him ill, he is held in pledge for his sins. Whoever prays the funeral prayer over the dead will often pray for mercy upon them and visit their graves; he may also see off travelers and support the poor. It is also said:
Whoever sees that he is praying over a dead person will admonish a man who has no heart, or one whose means in this world are few.
Whoever sees that his wife died and came back to life will gain a benefit from crops. Whoever finds a dead person will attain wealth.
Whoever sees that he is walking in the footsteps of a dead person will follow his conduct and follow in his tracks, in worldly matters or religion.
Whoever sees that the leader died, the town will be ruined, just as
whoever sees that the town was ruined, the leader will die.
Whoever sees that he will not die, his appointed time has drawn near. Death is remorse for a great sin. It is also said:
Whoever sees that he died in his sleep without illness or the appearance of one who is dying, his life will be long.
Whoever sees that he is in the throes of death, in the agony or the last gasps, is a wrongdoer against himself or against others.
Whoever sees that he died naked on the ground will become poor; if he died on a carpet (bisat), the world will be spread out (yubsat) for him; if on a bed, he will attain elevation; and if on bedding, he will gain good from his family. If he sees that news reached him of the death of a stranger, news will reach him of the corruption of his religion and the soundness of his worldly life.
Whoever sees that a son of his died will be saved from an enemy of his; if he sees that his daughter died, he will despair of relief.
Whoever sees that he has died and been buried: if he is a slave, it indicates his emancipation; if he has been entrusted with something, it indicates that what he was entrusted with will be taken from his hand; if he is unmarried, it indicates his marriage. If a sick person sees that he married, he will die.
Whoever sees that he died and was buried while he is married will part from his wife, or his partner, or his brothers, or his friends; it may indicate his travel and life as a stranger; and if he is a traveler, he will return to his family. Death is a sign of good for one who was afraid of something or was sad. A sick person who sees that he died, it indicates his illness. The death of brothers indicates the death of enemies, and deliverance from a loss he is expecting.
Whoever sees that he is among dead people is among hypocrites.
Whoever sees that he is keeping company with a dead person will travel on a long journey and find much good and kindness on his journey. If he eats with the dead person, his life will be long. Whoever sees himself dead will be happy and content. A dead person eating something indicates that thing becoming expensive.
Whoever sees that he is on the washing table (for the dead), his standing will rise and he will be saved from sins, worries and debts. If he sees a dead person asking someone to wash his clothes, it is his need for the prayers of the one who saw him or of his friend, or for the payment of a debt, or for someone's forgiveness, or for the carrying out of a will, or for absolution from a wrong, or for something he is being questioned about. If someone washes them, his release will come about at that person's hands.
Whoever sees that he is carrying the dead to the cemeteries, it is a true matter. Whoever carries them to the markets will achieve his need and his trade will prosper.
Whoever sees a dead person alive, a dead matter will come to life for him; if he is in hardship, ease will come to him from where he does not perceive. If he sees known dead people rise up in a place, a town or a district, something will come to life for him or for the descendants of those dead. If they are dressed in new clothes and joyful, matters bringing happiness and joy will come to life for them or their descendants, their fortune will be renewed and their condition will improve. If the dead are sorrowful or their clothes are dirty, their circumstances will turn to poverty, worry and the earning of sins. If he sees the dead person busy, tired, or in a bad state in his appearance, his features and his clothing, that is his preoccupation with what he is in. If he is ill, he is being questioned about his religion in what is between him and God Most High specifically, not people; likewise if he is wearing dirty clothes. If he sees that his face is blackened and changed, he died in disbelief. If he sees that the dead person is joking, that is not a true dream, because the dead are too occupied with themselves for joking.
Whoever sees that his father and mother have come back to life, if he was afraid, he will be safe, relieved, and his worry will go away, especially if it is his mother.
Whoever sees that he brought a dead person back to life, a Jew, a Christian or a heretic will embrace Islam at his hands. If he sees that he is reviving the dead, he will guide people who are astray or heretics, or someone persisting in sins will repent at his hands.
Whoever sees the dead as if they are dying a second time, it indicates the death of a person who bears the name of that dead person.
Whoever sees a dead person complaining of his head, he is being questioned about his shortcomings in religion on account of a father or mother. If he complains of his neck, he is being questioned about his wife's dowry, or his will, or a trust he neglected. If he complains of his left hand, he is being questioned about the right of his brother, his sister, his child or his partner, or about an oath he swore falsely. If he complains of his side, he is being questioned about severing ties with his kin and clan, and about his household. If he complains of his shins, he is being questioned about wasting his livelihood and his life on falsehood. If he sees that he complains of his feet, he is being questioned about wealth he squandered on falsehood and on what God Most High did not command him. A woman's case is like a man's in all of that, and all of that follows the interpretation of the limbs and organs of the living.
Whoever sees a living person give the dead person something to eat or drink, it is harm that will befall him in his wealth. If he gives him clothing, it is hardship that will befall him in his wealth, or illness in himself, and he will recover. If he gives the dead person the clothes he was wearing, he will die and join him. If he lends the dead person that, for him to keep safe for him, or to be washed, or to wash something with it, without it leaving the living person's ownership, none of that will harm him in himself or his wealth.
Whoever sees a dead person give him a shirt or a scarf-mantle (taylasan) will attain what the dead person had during his lifetime: the shirt is a livelihood like his livelihood, and the mantle is prestige and standing like his prestige and standing. If he sees the dead person give him food, he will obtain noble provision from a place he did not expect. If he gives him honey, he will gain spoils he did not expect. Everything pleasing that the dead person gives you is good from where you do not expect it. If he sees that the dead person took him by the hand, wealth will fall into his hands from a quarter that had been despaired of. Talking with the dead is long life, and taking from the dead is provision.
Whoever sees that he is talking with a dead person, there will be estrangement between him and people, and then he will return to reconciliation.
Whoever sees that he is kissing a known dead person will benefit from the dead person through knowledge or wealth he left behind. If he sees that he is kissing an unknown dead person, he will obtain wealth from where he does not expect. If a dead person kisses him, he will receive good from the dead person or from his descendants. If an unknown dead person kisses him, it is his receiving good from a cause he does not expect.
Whoever sees that he is kissing a dead person while the dreamer is ill, it indicates his death; if he is healthy in body, it indicates that his speech is false.
If he sees a dead man marry a living woman with a new dowry and take her to his house, it is her death. If a living person sees that he followed a dead person and entered an unknown house and then did not come out of it, it indicates his death. If he follows a dead person but does not enter the house with him and turns away from him, he will come close to death and then survive.
Whoever sees that the dead person gave him his worn-out or dirty shirt will become poor: the worn-out shirt is his poverty and the dirt is his sins.
Whoever sees that the dead person is beating a living person, or turning away from him as if angry, the living person has introduced corruption into his religion, because the dead person is pleased only with what pleases God Most High, since he is in the Abode of Truth. If he sees a living person beating a dead person, while the dead person submits to him, content with what befalls him, that is the strength of the living person in his religion and his benefiting the dead person with charity, prayer, a sacrifice, or a will he took on and carried out for him.
Whoever sees a dead person beating him will gain good from a journey, and something that had left him will come back to him; the dead person's beating him is the collecting of a debt.
Whoever sees a dead person sleeping, his sleep is his rest in the Hereafter and his good state there; likewise if he sees him naked with no garment on him.
Whoever sees that the dead person bought food or goods, it will become expensive and the food will sell well. If he sees the dead selling food or goods, that food or those goods will become slack in the market. If he finds a dead person or a dead mouse in food, that food and those goods will spoil and their capital will be lost. If he sees a dead person doing something praiseworthy, he is commanding that thing be done; if it is disliked, he is commanding that it be abandoned.
Whoever sees a living person among the dead will travel on a long journey, or his religion will become corrupt. If he sees that he is with the dead while he is alive, he will mix with people whose religion is corrupt.
Whoever sees a living person following a dead person and tracing his footsteps in his coming and going, the living person is following the example of the dead person in the way he lived, in his religion and worldly life.
Whoever sees a dead person who died an idolater coining wise sayings and speaking words of righteousness and truth, whether unknown or known, that is not a true dream; perhaps the devil took on his likeness and spoke idolatry through his tongue. If you see a dead disbeliever wearing worn-out clothes, it is his bad state in the Hereafter. If a Jew, a Christian or a Zoroastrian sees one of their dead on a throne, wearing green clothes with a crown on his head and the like, it indicates elevation and honor for his descendants in their worldly life: good, joy and honor.
Whoever sees a dead person who tells him that he will never die, that dead person is in the station of the martyrs and blessed in the Hereafter. If a dead person tells a living person that he will join him at a set time, a day may be a month, a month a year, and a year ten days.
Whoever sees that his mother is dying will lose his worldly fortune and his state will be ruined; if he is one of those who seek the Hereafter, he will be held back from his work and distracted from his obligatory duties.
Whoever sees that his brother has died: if he is ill, it is his own death; otherwise it is someone who treats him as a brother or whom he relies on. If he has no brother and sees the death of a full brother of his, he will die or lose his wealth; and if he is poor, he will be afflicted in one of his eyes or one of his hands.
Whoever sees that his wife is dying, the craft by which he earns his living will slacken.
Whoever sees a dead person who had been governor of a town alive, or governing that place as he used to, that dead person's way of conduct will revive among them, and the subjects will follow the like of that governor's conduct; or someone else will govern that town from among his descendants, his clan or his people, or someone like him, or his peer, or someone whose name is like his name.
Whoever sees a dead scholar, righteous man or jurist arrive in a place, its people, if they are in war, drought or fear, will be relieved, the condition of their chief will improve and his conduct among them will become good.
Whoever sees that one of the pharaohs (tyrants) has come to a town or is its governor, injustice and ill-treatment will appear among the people of that town.
Whoever sees that he carried a dead person in the manner of funerals will follow a ruler or a person of authority; likewise if he carries him on his back, in a cloth or in a container.
Whoever sees that he is praying over a dead person will intercede for a man whose religion is corrupt.
Whoever sees that a dead person called him from where he could not see him, and he answered him, will die and join the dead person.
Whoever sees that a dead person is drowning in a sea, that person is drowning in sins.
Whoever sees that the dead leapt from their graves and returned to their homes, those in prison will be released, or God Most High will revive the plants after their death. Death may indicate honor for the believer. Death may indicate withdrawing from people through one's own view or through asceticism. Sudden death may indicate quick wealth for the poor or quick poverty for the rich. The death of the prophets, peace be upon them, in a dream is weakness in religion, and their being alive is the opposite of that. The death of a king is a sign of the weakness of his troops. The death of a scholar is the invalidation of the dreamer's argument; the death of a scholar may also indicate the appearance of a heretical innovation in religion. The death of a worshipper is the death of the dreamer's heart toward worship. The death of a craftsman is the slackening of his craft. The death of parents is a straitened livelihood. The death of a wife is worldly fortune departing. The death of a child is the cutting off of one's name and memory. The death of what he relies on for his needs, such as his slave or his riding animal, is a sign that his journey will be canceled, or of a fine in proportion to the value of what died. A dead person praying over a dead person is worthless deeds, because the deeds of both dead people have come to an end; or it signals that he owes a debt, or that he seeks the intercession of one who does not intercede. The dead person taking something is the loss of what he took, whether clothing, food, a relish or an animal; and taking from him is an increase in provision, when it points to good. If there is a Jew or a Christian with the dead person, it may indicate a deed by which God Most High saves him from the Fire and ransoms him from it, because it has been reported that God Most High will give every Muslim a Jew or a Christian, and it will be said: “This is your ransom from the Fire.” A dead man marrying in a dream means a husband for a single woman and divorce for a married woman; his marrying may indicate his good state with God Most High. Seeing dead idolaters in a dream means enemies, and the dead of the People of the Book mean extremism in religion and the renewal of worries and troubles.
