(Peace be upon them.) Whoever sees one of the prophets in a dream, it signifies a child, because of the prophet's concern to protect him from the fire of this world and the Hereafter. It signifies a master teacher, because he trains a person in his manners, and a tutor, because of what he teaches of the Book of God Most High. Seeing the prophets and messengers (peace be upon them) signifies warning and glad tidings. If he sees them in states befitting them, or follows them as imam in prayer, or follows them on the road, or they feed him good food, or give him something fragrant and delicious to drink, or teach him knowledge, or give him news, that and the like is evidence of his following them well and preserving their Sunnah. Conversely, if he goes against them in following them, so that he walks ahead of them, or directs them to the narrowest path, or mocks them, or stones them, or does not agree with them in what is right, that signifies his innovation and misguidance, and he may suffer misery from those in authority. For seeing the prophets (peace be upon them) signifies kings, because they are the kings of this world and the Hereafter; and scholars, because of their knowledge of God Most High and their nearness to Him, through what they laid down of prayer, zakat, the affirmation of God's oneness and the worship of God Most High; and those in authority such as governors, preachers, imams, market inspectors or tutors, because they are those who call to God Most High. Every prophet a person sees in a good state is evidence of his people following him well, or of a righteous matter being renewed and appearing from their direction. If the prophet is seen in a good state, what appears from his community is good; if he is in an unbefitting state, what appears from his community is transgression and opposition to what he commanded or forbade them, such as the community of Moses — the Jews — and the community of Jesus — the Christians, according to the claim of both groups; otherwise they are all the community of Muhammad (God bless him and grant him peace), for the communities of Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them both) have come to an end with the abrogation of their laws by our law today. Whoever claims prophethood (nubuwwa) in a dream, news (naba') will come from him in proportion to his standing. If he is fit for rule, he will rule, or (be fit for) judgeship or teaching, especially if he enjoined what is right or forbade what is wrong. Otherwise, a calamity will befall him from someone in authority because of a falsehood he claims or an innovation he introduces. If in the dream he became a messenger or a caller to God Most High, then if someone answers him and accepts his call, he will attain a high rank; otherwise he will become a broker or a muezzin according to his standing and rank, or a calamity will befall him matching the ordeal of the prophet whose name he took or whom he resembled.
(Whoever sees) one of the prophets (God's blessings and peace be upon them) come to a place, then if its people are at war they will triumph over their enemy, and if they are in distress or drought, God Most High will relieve them and set their affairs right.
(Whoever sees) that he put on the garment of one of the prophets (peace be upon them), if he is a person of leadership he will obtain authority, and if he is a seeker of knowledge he will attain a high degree in it and his virtues and proofs will become evident.
(Whoever sees) that he is a prophet will die a martyr, or his provision will be straitened and he will be granted patience and the seeking of reward in his afflictions, and afterwards he will come to victory and sufficiency.
(Whoever sees) that he is doing some of the deeds of the prophets, such as worship and righteousness, it is evidence of the soundness of his religion and the strength of his certainty.
(Whoever sees) that he became one of the prophets (God's blessings and peace be upon them) will enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and the hardships and sorrows of this world will befall him in proportion to that prophet's standing among the prophets (peace be upon them); then he will be saved by the kindness and generosity of God Most High and will not be forsaken.
(Whoever sees) one of the prophets while he is bankrupt or in need of something, God Most High will make his affair easy and his need will be met through the blessing of that prophet (God bless him and grant him peace). Seeing the prophets (peace be upon them) is of two kinds: either he sees a prophet in his proper state and appearance, which is evidence of the dreamer's righteousness, honor, complete standing and victory over whoever is hostile to him; or he sees him changed in state and frowning, which signifies the dreamer's bad condition and a hardship that will befall him, after which God Most High will relieve him.
(Whoever sees) that he killed a prophet, it signifies that he will betray a trust and break a covenant.
(Whoever sees) that he is living in the time of the prophets (peace be upon them) will obtain honor, blessings and authority if he is capable of that; otherwise Satan is toying with him. If he sees one of the prophets (peace be upon them) striking him, he will attain his wish in the matter of his Hereafter, if he is a righteous and noble man.
(Whoever sees) that the prophets (peace be upon them) are speaking to him, or that he spoke to one of them, then if the speech is good, he will obtain benefit, honor, nobility and renown among people.
