Whoever sees in a dream that he cups [someone] or is cupped will take on an office, be entrusted with a trust, have a contract with conditions written against him, or marry, because the neck is the seat of trust. If [the cupper] made incisions, he will marry a slave-woman, and she will ask him for maintenance and what he cannot bear; if he did not make incisions, she will not ask him for maintenance. If the cupper is an old man, he is his grandfather; if he is a known old man, he is his friend; if he is a young man, he is his enemy who will write a contract of conditions or a debt against him. If he cups a king or a man, he will triumph over them both. Whoever cups an old man, his fortune [jadd] will rise and he will triumph over him; if he cups a young man, he will triumph over an enemy of his. They said cupping is the departure of illness, and they said it is a decrease of wealth.
It is said: whoever sees a cupper cupping him, it is the loss of money from him for some benefit. If he was cupped and no blood came out, he has buried money that he will not find his way to, or handed it as a deposit to one who will not return it to him. If blood came out, his body will be healthy that year. If a stone came out instead of blood, his wife will give birth by another man, so he should not accept that child. If the cupping glass breaks, he will divorce his wife or die.
It is said: whoever sees that he was cupped will gain a profit. If he is imprisoned and sees that he is being cupped, he will be saved from prison. If he sees the marks of the cupping incisions on his neck, that is testimony against him. If he sees that he is cupping a person while he is not a cupper, he will be saved from evil or from fear of a person or a ruler. Cupping glasses are thieves, and incision blades are the thief's keys. If a rich man is cupped, he will pay out gold in a fine. It is said that cupping is drinking medicine, which one endures as he endures the pain of the blade until he attains health. Cupping may be poison from which blood comes out. Whoever cups a person he fears will be safe from his evil. Cupping may signify the spending of unlawful money by the one cupped, or the cupper earning it. If one of them is fasting, each of them will break the fast or do something that spoils his fast. If the dreamer is cupped in a dream on the two neck veins [al-akhda'ayn] for a headache or eye pain, it signifies his recovery from his complaint; it may signify his blindness, because of the wordplay in 'akhda'ayn' [resembling 'deceiving the eyes']. If he drinks blood in his dream, it signifies unlawful earnings and backbiting, or he will be victorious over the one whose blood he drank in the dream, human or animal. Cupping [hijama] may signify withholding and keeping silent instead of replying, and that is from hajm and ihjam [holding back].
