In a dream it indicates the loss of a position, the divorce of a wife, the death of a sick person, or leaving one's homeland for another, or one trade for another, whether the dreamer is the one bidding farewell or another is bidding him farewell.

Whoever sees as if he is bidding farewell to his wife will divorce her. It is also said that farewell indicates parting from the one bid farewell, through death or another cause of separation. Farewell indicates partners going their separate ways, the dismissal of a governor and the loss of a merchant. Some said that farewell is favorable in interpretation, indicating taking back a divorced wife, reconciliation with a partner, a merchant's profit, the return of office to a governor and the recovery of the sick. That is because it comes from wada' [farewell], and its wording contains wad'a, which is ease and rest; and also because wada', when reversed, becomes 'ad ["he returned"]. Some said: If a person sees in his dream as if he is giving a farewell greeting, that is bad for the one who hears it and the one who says it, because people do not bid one another farewell except at parting, at the cessation [of work], and when one wants to sleep. Likewise this dream indicates, for one who wants to hold a wedding, the cancellation of his wedding, and the parting of partners and the death of the sick.
