Wind ريح

Seeing it in a dream signifies the ruler himself, because of its strength and its dominion over the creatures beneath it, along with its benefit and its harm. Sometimes the wind signifies the ruler’s kingdom, his soldiers, his commands, and the events of his armies and aides; the wind was a servant to Solomon, peace be upon him. Sometimes it signifies punishment, needs and calamities, because of its violence when it rages and the many trees it fells and ships it sinks — especially if it is the west wind (dabūr), because that is the wind by which the people of ‘Ad were destroyed, and because it is a wind that does not pollinate. Sometimes the wind signifies abundance, provision, victory, triumph and good tidings, especially if it is one of the pollinating winds, because of the good it brings to plants and fruit; that is the east wind (ṣabā). The Arabs call the east wind “qabūl” (acceptance) because it is the opposite of the dabūr (from “turning back”); even if one drew a conclusion from the dabūr and the qabūl only from their names, that would suffice. Sometimes the wind signifies illnesses and ailments that spread among people, such as colds and headaches.

Whoever sees a wind move him and carry him without fright, fear, darkness or fog, he will rule over people if he is fit for that or hopes for it, or his trade will flourish if it was stagnant. If the wind lifts him and carries him off while he is afraid, terrified, bewildered and anxious, or if there is darkness, dust, turmoil and confinement with it: if he is on a ship, it will be wrecked; if he is ill, his illness will worsen; otherwise misfortunes and mishaps will befall him, or orders of the ruler or the judge will be issued against him. If he sees the wind lashing the trees, demolishing walls, and sweeping away people, animals or food, it is a great affliction among the people: either plague, the sword, civil strife, a raid, or captivity. The scorching wind (samūm) is feverish illnesses. Wind with thunder is a tyrannical ruler with power. Whoever is carried by the wind from place to place will gain authority, or will travel on a journey from which he will not return. A wind falling upon a city or an army: if they are at war, they will perish. A gentle, soft, clear wind is good and blessing. A violent storm wind is the ruler’s tyranny. Wind with dust is a sign of war. Wind is good tidings from God the Exalted. Wind with no indication of good accompanying it is the departure of blessing from that place; and if it has a howling sound, it is punishment and hardship. If a ruler sees that he is going out to battle and the wind is ahead of him (at his back), he will prevail; and if the wind blows against him, he will be defeated. If he sees that a violent storm wind arose generally in a place, its people will be struck by fear and hardship in proportion to the wind’s strength and extent. If it uproots the trees, the king will be angry with the men of that district, destroy them and uproot them from their homelands. The east wind (ṣabā) is mercy, and the south wind (janūb) is the wind of the (king’s) court. If he sees that a strong wind blew, it is a calamity. If he sees that a wind uprooted palm trees, the men of that land will be killed at the king’s hand. The south wind signifies the occurrence of an epidemic, illness or death in that place; it is also said that it is rain and provision. If he sees the wind blowing calmly, it signifies agreeing with bad people who have no sound judgment. Pleasant winds blowing from a known direction signify good news and mercy. Wind signifies needs and the sending of messengers. The east wind is victory and the west wind is defeat. Sometimes the east wind signifies relief from worries and sorrows, healing of illnesses, and news — especially the breeze of the east wind. Sometimes pleasant winds signify restful, profitable journeys. If he sees a red wind in a dream, it signifies disobedience to parents or the rise of the base and vile.
