In a dream it is a covenant and a pledge. The rope from the sky is the Quran. Ropes are honor and standing; ropes are scheming and deception, and they signify sorcery. The rope is religion.
Whoever sees that he held fast to a rope is holding fast to the rope of God the Exalted. If it is of palm fiber, he is a rough man; if it is of leather, he is a man with blood on his hands; if it is of wool, he is a follower of the religion of Islam.
If he sees that he twisted a rope, he will set out on a journey. If he twisted it and put it around a neck, it is a marriage. If he wound it around himself, he will take up an office after a journey. If the rope is of hair or wool, it is an office of religion or of trade.
If he sees that he plucked out his beard and twisted a rope [from it], he will take a bribe for false testimony.
It is said: whoever sees a rope will travel a long journey. The rope is one of the means [to something]. If the rope is around his neck, on his shoulder, on his back or around his waist, it is a covenant that falls upon his neck and a pledge, whether by marriage, a contract, a vow, a debt, a partnership or a trust. As for one who twists a rope, measures it, or winds it around a stick or the like, he will travel; and likewise all winding and twisting. Twisting and the binding of affairs and partnership may signify marriage.
Whoever sees a rope on a staff, it signifies a corrupt act such as sorcery and the like.
