In a dream it is the master of the house, just as the hen is the mistress of the house. The rooster is also a slave. Whoever is given a young rooster, a slave-boy will be born to him [in his household]. It is said rather that he is a fighting man descended from slaves [Mamluks]. It is said he is a man of bad character who sometimes speaks well, sometimes raves, and cries out without benefit. It is said the rooster is a servant who has affection [for him], and whoever takes it, it is reconciliation between him and a man.
Whoever sees that he slaughtered a rooster does not answer the muezzin.
Whoever sees a rooster in a dream will increase in wisdom, or in meeting scholars and benefiting from them.
Whoever sees that he became a rooster will die soon.
Whoever sees that a rooster pecked him once or twice will be killed by a non-Arab man. If the rooster is white with a split comb, it is a muezzin.
It is said: whoever sees that he became a rooster will become a slave, or a muezzin who knows the times [of prayer]. The rooster signifies the muezzin, the preacher, or the melodious reciter. It may signify the man who commands good and does not do it himself, because it reminds of prayer and does not pray. It may signify the generous man who prefers others over himself in what he needs, or one content with what he finds, the one of little luck, the one with many dependents, and one who often falls into hardships. The rooster signifies what is gathered.
Whoever sees a rooster enter his house and peck up grains of barley, the muezzin will steal something from him. The rooster signifies a man of lofty ambition and a fine voice. Small roosters are young slaves, or boys, or children, or slaves; likewise female chicks are slave-girls, slaves or maidservants. A flock of birds is captives and wealth in slaves. Whoever owns a rooster will be granted a male child, or buy a slave or a house, or his livelihood will flow abundantly, or an absent person or news of him will arrive; or whoever the rooster points to is a preacher, a broker, a crier, a muezzin or a guard. If it pecks a person or disturbs him with its voice, misery will come to him from one of those we mentioned. Whoever obtains a red rooster will gain a wicked runaway slave.
Whoever sees that he is fighting a rooster is contending with a non-Arab man; if something disliked befalls him from the rooster, something disliked will befall him from that non-Arab man in proportion to what befell him from the rooster.
