In a dream it is the key to its owner's affair and its seal, the vessel of his soundness and his corruption, the channel of his provision and the mainstay of his affair. What comes out of the mouth is, in interpretation, of the substance of speech, in good and evil; and what goes into it is of the substance of provision.
(Whoever sees) that his mouth is locked or shut, he is disbelieving in God Most High. The mouth indicates death and life, speech, a dwelling, a vessel, a prison, a bathhouse, a mill, an underground grain store, a chest, a wife, a drain, a quest, a place of destruction, a place of worship, provision, a craft, guidance and misguidance.
(Whoever sees) that his mouth has vanished, it signifies his death. If a sick person sees that his mouth became large and handsome, it signifies his recovery and life. If his trade is calling out (as a crier) or guarding and he sees that his mouth has vanished, it signifies that his affairs will come to a halt, and the reverse. It may signify the ruin of a dwelling, the breaking or removal of a vessel, and the emptying of a prison. If the mouth signifies a bathhouse, its saliva is the water and the tongue in it is like the attendant. If it signifies a mill, its grinding is what goes into it. It is the underground grain store, because what goes into it remains hidden, and likewise the chest. It is the drain, because of what goes into it gulped and swallowed. It is the quest, because every desired thing is obtained in it: it is a seeker of its appetite and sought for its benefit. It is the place of destruction, because of the destruction of what goes into it. It is the place of worship, because it is the place of purification. It is provision, because it is provided for so that it may survive and move. It is a craft for preachers, orators, Quran reciters and the like. Then from it appear misguidance and guidance. The mouth may signify the mouth of a well, a large water jar, a box or a waterskin. The mouth is the house of kinship. It is also said: a censer full of smoke, a dining cloth for a traveler, a snake's den for one who stings, the hatch of a ship, and a latrine — that is the mouth of one who eats the unlawful. The saliva of an old woman is sour lemon whey, a stinking well, mustard or a sting; the saliva of an old woman may be inability ('ajz — a play on 'ajuz, "old woman") in affairs.
