Dream meaning · al-Nabulsi

Hoopoe هدهد

In a dream it indicates the demolition [hadd] of what is built up, from its name. Seeing it may indicate a truthful messenger close to kings, or a spy, or a learned man who argues much. It may indicate rescue from hardships and torment. It may indicate knowledge of God Most High and of what He has prescribed of religion and prayer. If a thirsty person sees it, he will be guided to water. The hoopoe is a learned man spoken of badly because of its foul smell. Whoever sees it will attain honor and wealth; if he eats it, good will come to him from the caliph.

(Whoever sees) a hoopoe, a traveler will come back to him. It is said it is a man who keeps accounts, who reports to the ruler the events that occur. It may be safety at a time of fear. It is the king's guide to what increases his kingdom. The hoopoe is a man perceptive in his work, a discerning scribe.

(Whoever sees) that he caught a hoopoe, or saw it standing before him, it is good news that will reach him from a distant land. It is said that whoever catches a hoopoe or owns it will gain power over a ruler, or over a noble scribe, or a man of penetrating insight in affairs who has no religion; if he slaughters the hoopoe or overpowers it, he will triumph over such a man.

(Whoever sees) that he obtained some of the hoopoe's feathers or flesh will obtain wealth and good from a man whose state is like that of the hoopoe in the interpretation mentioned.
