In a dream it is good, quick provision involving little toil.
Whoever sees that he sold wheat for barley is a man who forgot the Quran and busied himself with poetry [shi'r, wordplay with sha'ir "barley"].
Whoever sees that he is taking barley will be granted a learned son, but he will be short-lived. It is said that barley is wealth with bodily health. Buying barley from someone who sells it to you is a great thing. Harvesting it in its season is wealth that comes to him, on which a due to God the Exalted is owed. Whoever sows barley does a deed that pleases God the Exalted. Whoever walks in it or in any crop will be granted [the reward of] striving in God's cause, for crops are the deeds of God's servants. If he sows barley, he will gather wealth that grows from profitable trade, or from governing a prosperous district, along with bodily health, or he will receive good from a ruler. Green barley is abundance. Barley [sha'ir] is a feeling [isti'shar] of good, and it signifies health and well-being.
