In a dream it indicates doubtful matters. It may indicate this world, because of what is reported in the saying: "This world is a bridge, so cross it and do not build upon it." It may indicate the wife, because she is 'trodden' upon, gives rest and is close at hand. It may indicate relief from worries and miseries. Riding over the bridge indicates wealth and long life, or illness, or breaking a covenant. The bridge is a man through whom people reach their affairs and needs; that man may be a king, a person of authority or one of the wise, unless the bridge leads to a disliked place in which there is no good. If he sees that he is crossing one of the ruler's bridges, he will obtain great wealth and marry. An unknown bridge indicates this world, especially if it is between the city and the cemetery. It may indicate the ship, and it may indicate the Bridge (al-Sirat), because it is a steep pass at the Gathering between a person and Paradise. Whoever crosses the bridge in a dream will cross from this world to the Hereafter if, after crossing, he meets the dead, or enters a house whose building, people and location are unknown, or a bird flies off with him, or an animal swallows him, or he falls into a well or a pit, or ascends to the sky; all of this applies if he is sick in waking life. If he is not sick and he is a traveler, that is the end of his journey. If he comes down to plenty, straw, barley, dates or an old woman, he will arrive at fruit and wealth. If he comes down to the ground of a mosque, he will obtain what he wants from his journey, whether pilgrimage, campaigning or garrison duty. Whoever becomes a bridge will attain authority, and people will need him, his standing and what he has.
(Whoever sees) that he is crossing a wooden bridge will come in among a hypocritical people.
