He to Whom nothing is like, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing. Seeing Him in a dream differs according to the differences in people's inner hearts. Whoever sees Him in His majesty and glory, without attributing to Him any manner, likeness or resemblance, it is a sign of good; it is glad tidings for him in his worldly life and the soundness of his religion in his hereafter. If he sees Him otherwise, his dream points to the corruption of his inner heart, especially if God the Exalted does not speak to him. A sick person who sees Him will die, because He is the Truth and death is true. If someone astray sees Him, he will be guided, because he has seen the Truth. If someone wronged sees Him, he will triumph over his enemies. As for hearing His speech, the Exalted, without likening it to anything, it points to the dreamer's heretical innovation; and hearing His speech may indicate safety from fear and the attainment of one's wishes. His speech, the Exalted, without seeing Him, may indicate a raised rank, especially if He revealed something to him. If it was from behind a veil, he may be upon innovation or error, or he may attain a rank in keeping with his worth, especially if a messenger came to him.
It is said that whoever sees God the Exalted in a form that he describes and delimits, his dream is a jumble of confused dreams, because God the Exalted is not delimited and is not likened to anything among created things. It is also said that whoever sees God the Exalted given a form in a place, the dreamer is one who lies about God the Exalted or attributes to Him what does not befit Him.
Whoever sees that God the Exalted speaks to him and he is able to look at Him, God will have mercy on him and complete His favor upon him. Whoever sees that he is looking at God will look at Him in the hereafter. Whoever sees that He descended to him, or that he prayed in His presence, will win His mercy, attain martyrdom if he seeks it, and achieve what he hoped for in the affairs of his world and his hereafter. Whoever sees that he embraces Him, or kisses Him, or kisses one of His limbs, will win the reward he seeks and gain the reward for deeds that he desires. Whoever sees that He gave him some of the goods of this world will be afflicted with trials and illnesses, and by that his reward will be made great and his recompense and renown multiplied. Whoever sees that He promised him forgiveness, or entry into Paradise, or the like, will remain fearful of God the Exalted and mindful of Him.
Whoever sees God the Exalted and is unable to look at Him, or sees His Throne or His Footstool without Him, has sent ahead good for himself. If he sees Him, and He speaks to him and he is able to look at Him, or he sees Him on His Throne or His Footstool, he will attain good and an increase in knowledge.
Whoever sees that he is fleeing from God the Exalted while He seeks him: if he is a worshipper, he will turn away from worship and obedience; if he has a father, he will be undutiful to him and disobey him; and if he is a slave, he will turn and run away from his master. Whoever sees as if there is a veil between him and God the Exalted commits major sins and perpetrates wrongdoing. Whoever sees Him frowning, or angry with him, or he is unable to bear His light, or is stunned or trembles on seeing Him, or begins asking to be pardoned and for repentance and forgiveness, it points to sins, major sins, innovations and terrors.
Whoever sees that God the Exalted spoke to him, it is a warning to him and a prohibition against acts of disobedience. Whoever sees that God the Exalted is conversing with him will recite the Quran often. Whoever sees that He converses with him and he understands His speech will hear a word from a ruler or a judge; and if he does not understand His speech, it is according to that.
Whoever sees that God the Exalted wiped over his head and blessed him, He the Exalted will single him out for His honor and bring him near to Him, except that He will not lift affliction from him until he dies. Whoever sees Him, the Exalted, in the form of a father, a brother or a relative or loved one, being kind to him and blessing him, will be afflicted with a trial in his body by which God will make his reward great.
Whoever sees that God the Exalted looked down upon a place, or into a house, or descended in a land, a town or a place, justice will cover that place and good and fertility will abound in it, by the permission of God the Exalted. If He looks down upon a place while frowning, or with darkness accompanying Him, it is the destruction of that place and the ruin of its people, and it will be struck by affliction, hardship, plague or similar calamities. Whoever sees Him with someone in distress, imprisoned or besieged, that person will be relieved and what afflicts him will be removed.
Whoever sees that he is cursing God the Exalted is ungrateful for His blessing and not content with the provision God has apportioned to him.
Whoever sees as if he is standing before God the Exalted looking at Him: if the dreamer is one of the righteous, his dream is a dream of mercy; and if he is not one of the righteous, he must beware of that. If he sees as if he is confiding in Him in intimate prayer, he will be honored with nearness and made beloved to people; likewise if he sees that he is prostrating before God the Exalted. Whoever sees as if He speaks to him from behind a veil, his religion will become good, he will discharge his trust if one is in his hands, and his authority will become strong. If he sees that He speaks to him without a veil, he will be a man with a sin in his religion. If He clothes him, it is worry and sickness for as long as he lives, and by it he will merit great reward. If he sees as if God the Exalted called him by his own name and another name, his standing will rise and he will overcome his enemies.
If he sees that God the Exalted is displeased with him, it points to his parents' displeasure with him; and whoever sees that his parents are displeased with him, that points to God the Exalted's displeasure with him. Whoever sees that God the Exalted is angry with him will fall from a high place; and if he sees that he fell from a wall, from the sky or from a mountain, that points to the anger of God the Exalted.
Whoever sees an image or a figure and is told, "This is your god," and he believes it is his god and worships it and prostrates to it, is immersed in falsehood while thinking it is truth. Whoever sees God the Exalted praying in a place, His mercy and forgiveness will come to that place, the spot where He was praying. Whoever sees God the Exalted kissing him: if he is one of the people of righteousness and good, he will devote himself to obeying Him, the Exalted, and reciting His Book, or he will be taught the Quran; and if he is otherwise, he is an innovator.
Whoever sees that God the Exalted called him and he answered Him will perform the Hajj, God the Exalted willing. As for His manifesting Himself over a particular place, it may indicate its being built up if it was in ruins, or its ruin if it was flourishing. If the people there are oppressors, He will take vengeance on them; and if they are oppressed, justice will descend upon them. Seeing Him, the Exalted, in a particular place may also indicate a great king who will be there, or a harsh tyrant who will take charge of its affairs, or a beneficial scholar or a wise physician expert in treatments who will come to that place. As for fearing God the Exalted in a dream, it indicates reassurance and tranquility, wealth after poverty and ample provision. Whoever sees as if he has come to Him, Glorified and Exalted [the wording of the source is terse here], will be guided to the straight path. Whoever sees as if the Truth, the Exalted, is threatening him and warning him of punishment will commit a sin.
